According to John Donne, "No man is an island" refers to the idea that no one is meant to
live alone and that in order to do so, we must all rely on one another. Additionally, it implies that
nobody is independent and that everyone depends on others. In this poem, John Donne explores
the idea of interpersonal connection. Everyone is a part of a greater whole, therefore when one of
us dies, we are all impacted. All people are therefore interconnected, and our survival depends on
being a member of this world. Confucius believed that we should treat others as we would like to
be treated. This phrase is accurate, especially when applied to the poetry, because if you want
someone to stick by you so that you can live, you also need to stick by them. Giving and
receiving are comparable.

It was important to recognize that, as Paul and Donne described the church, we only make
up a small percentage of the body or the continent. Each of us is strengthened and enhanced by
the others, and when others are, we are limited or lost. For someone to be able to survive in life,
it is our obligation as individuals to assist them or to be there for them. No one should ever be
alone; we require a motivator to help us reach our greatest potential. We must be polite and
respectful to everyone with inter subjectivity because I truly believe that each and every person
is deserving of both. Nobody is alone like an island that is simply surrounded by the water.
