GCS was the first established water desalination plant in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Bulk potable water is supplied by means of large trucks and barges (for offshore supplies), mainly to the catering and construction industries, military, private pools, hotels, restaurants, and many other countless clients. In addition, the ice plant can produce ice in bulk or in smaller packaging for a wide range of industries. In the late 1930 s, just before World War II, two brothers MrHasan and Mr Habib Mahmood founded the Hasan& Habib s/o Mahmood Group of Companies. MrHasanMahood put to good use his extensive experience of the local shipping industry and his knowledge of the finer points of dhow captaincy as well as the ports in the region, as the Company commenced shipping goods by dhow all over the Gulf. In 1973, the Company gained control over the Canada Dry Bottling and end sales distribution franchise, followed by similar progress with Gulfa Water and other agency products two years later.
