Arinlot temperature not to oxcaod 100°F at dryer inet. Bost results are obtained at temperatures below 90°F. (Pipe line warm tothe touch) Inet shut-off valve (required for occasional addition of Super Beads or Super-Dry Tables}. Outlet shut-off valve. Bypass shut-off valve for maintenance of air dryer without loss of airto plant supply Ine, Drain valve. Drain dally. General Ar Model ET-4 Timer-controlled ‘Auto-Drain assembly recommended. Do NOT use foat-type rains, LOCATION (110°F Maximum Ambient Temperature) PREFERRED: Downstream ftom Ar Storage Tank. Maintain ful ine pressure on air inlet. Place Regulators downstream, ALTERNATE: Place between Aftercoole and Air Storage Tank, Any installation which Is subject to a sudden targe volume of ar on ‘demand should have a back-pressure valve placed on dryer outlet port, set to always maintain adequate pressure in the dryer. This ‘eliminates excessive flow from pressure drop, which results in ‘carrying over of desiccant effluent. Normal pressure drop through ‘dryers 2 PSI at 100 PSIG inet. 2 Following installation, fl Models 28 through 75 to within 6* ofthe top with Super Bead Desiccant. Models 100 and larger with 11x 15 ‘manhole covers should be filed to within 2” ofthe inside top of the ‘ute port, orto within 18" of top of head when filer ports are not Centered in the top head. "Note: Chemsaver Pebbles may be used with Super Bead Desic- Cant o reduce consumption. When used, place pebbles in ‘yer st, then ad desiccant. ‘Super-Dry Tablet Desicoant Dryers Pour all Chemsaver Pebbles furished into the dryer through the filer port. Spread evenly. Fill with Super-Dry Tablets. Pebbles are not fumished or required with Models S028, SD?2 and SDS) OPERATION Close drain and replace filer cover. Open inlet valve s-o-w-Fy to pressurize dryer, then open outlet valve s--o-w-ly; close bypass ‘ae. Maintain ine pressure in dryer at all times. Use bypass valves to isolate dryer from air system. Add desiccant two to four times per year, based upon a 40-hour work week. DRAINING ‘STANDARD DRYERS require draining every eight hours. ‘Aways locate drain valve atthe end of dain ine. Do NOT valve drain to any other pressurized drain ine. ‘AUTOMATIC DRAINS as described in General Air catalogs are Highly recommended. Foat-type drains are not acceptable. ‘TROUBLE-SHOOTING (CONDITION ‘CAUSE REMEDY 11, Plugged drain ines 1. High temperature over 100°F 1. Look for internal source of heat. Check these possiblities 4) Dryer too close to compressor with no aftercooler between. Move ‘away and ada aftercooler. ) Aftercooler nat sized property. Check manufacturer's manual ©) Water in aftercooler moving in same direction as air. Should be ‘countetiw 4) Insufficient flow of cooling water to aftercooler or compressor. Should not be less than ful fow in aftercooler during warm ‘weather. 1 gpm per 100 SCFM airflow during winter @) Attercooter clogged with it, minerals, etc. n water jacket Disassemble and clean, 4) Inlet water temperature to atercooler too high. On 15°F approach atercoolers, inlet water @ 80°F produces 95°F air. Double the aftercooler capacity for a 5°F approach, 1-A. Look for extemal source of heat. Check for: 4) Dryer installed near celing. Celina temperatures can be up to 40°F above floor level temperatures. Move dryer to flaor level ») Inet air tine at celing. Look for parallel steam lines adding heat to inlet air. Relocate inlet air ine, ) Dryer installed in high ambient temperature areas such as boiler rooms, near steam radiators, beneath heat blowers, in sun's ‘constant rays, atc. Move dryer to cooler location or wrap with {three to four inches of insulation, including inlet aire within area, or shield from sun. 2. Overload 2. Overload is normally a result of system workioad, occasionally 2 ‘result of instalation. Look for: 4) Is desiccant bed channeled? Normally indicates overload, Is dryer capacity equal to compressor discharge? Check catalog. If not, install arger dryer. (©) Has dryer been sized to handle the flow capacity atthe lowest pressure involved? Check capacity at pressure table. 1) Peak demand surges can draw more air from the receiver fora short period than the compressor can pump, creating dryer ‘overioad. Install larger dryer or a back pressure valve ©) Department or point-f-use installations can overload by ‘miscalculation of volume of air required. 4) Is.airinet ine to dryer senator thar the outlet? This can increase velocity through dryer, causing overioad. Change inlet piping to ‘Same size or larger as outet piping. 3. Improper draining 3. If dryer drain is equipped with a manual bal valve, has it been rained every eight hours of operation? 4) Installation of a General Air automatic drain, Model ET-4, wil establish a positive draining schedule, and is recommended ) Float- or diaphragm-type drain traps are nat recommended. ©) Install drain valve atthe end of drain tino. 1) Never reduce drain line pipe size downstream of drain valve ~ ‘ways increase if there isa piping size change. ©) Never valve drain to any other pressurized drain ine. 4) Submerge end of drain ine in floor dra. 2.
