Balboa’s Festival of the Arts 2023

Art Show Guidelines

The Art Show provides an excellent opportunity for students to express their talents and
creativity without limits, express themselves imaginatively, experience the joy of art making,
unleash their imagination and their critical thinking skills, and witness their own creation through
other people’s eyes.

All entries must include an entry form, Title, students name, grade, room and an Artist
Statement.

Mount all photo or visual arts prints on a poster board, cardboard or cardstock mat, or other
sturdy material so we may hang your entry without damaging the art piece. Nothing heavy!
No copy written material will be accepted. No plagiarized material. If plagiarism is discovered
the entry will be disqualified and returned.

Categories
​Photography: black & white or color, produced by a photographic process. Techniques such as
photomontage, multiple exposure, negative sandwiches, and photograms as well as different
light sources, lenses and filters are all acceptable. Images may be manipulated conventionally
or digitally. Pieces can not be larger than 11” x 14”, including the mat. Place name on the back.

​ iterature; fiction or nonfiction. Prose, poetry, and drama are all accepted. Entries must not

exceed 2,000 words. Entries may be handwritten or typed. Illustrated entries, including “books”
with pictures drawn by the student are acceptable; however. Entries are to reflect
grade‐appropriate grammar, punctuation, and spelling. It may be typed as long as the original
work or a copy of the original work is attached. Name on the Back.

Visual Art; A Visual arts entry must be an original print, drawing, painting, collage, photographic
collage, metal etching or punch work, fiber work, or computer generated artwork. Not to exceed
24” x 34“, including the mat, and not thicker than 3/8” (or it is too difficult to hang) Name on the
back.

​3-D, such as sculpture, fabric, clay – NO legos, kinetc, etc… Name on underside of entry.

All artwork must be done by one student. No artwork done in a classroom setting is admissible.
The artwork must be done exclusively for the this Art Show.
