How To Pop a Tire:

Having the knowledge of how to pop a tire is necessary whether you want to pop it with a knife
or pop it back onto the rim using the fire method or the one with lubricant and an air compressor.
These two are exactly the things you'll be finding out how to do by reading this article. It is really
not that hard and if you get used to it you can even do these in a matter of a few seconds, you
don’t need an auto mechanic to do this every time for you. Safety is the first and foremost
important thing to consider while popping a tire as the situation can get a bit dangerous if you
don’t do it correctly.

How To Pop a Tire Back onto The Rim:

If you ever need to repair a tire or replace it, you have to take it out and once you take it out you
will need to know how to pop it back on the rim safely and easily. Well, there are two popular
methods for popping a tire back onto the rim, such as using a fire blast or the safer approach of
using an air compressor and lubricant. Which approach is superior is a question that cannot be
answered with certainty. Although a lot depends on the user's preferences, the latter is without a
doubt safer. It depends on whether you want to get it done quicker or safer.

 The Fire Blast Method:

The fire blast method is undoubtedly the more popular of the two, as to why this is the
case is because it looks so much easier to do and it is if you get the hang of it but it's definitely
not safer than the other method. For popping a tire back onto the rim using this method you will
need a lighter/matchbox, starter fluid to start the fire, and a fire extinguisher to put out the fire.

 Step 1: If your tire is dirty, you should clean it thoroughly and ensure that it is dry and
clean before starting.
 Step 2: Spray the starter fluid all around the tire's bead. Spraying a moderate amount of
fluid is important to avoid starting a large fire that could make your task more hazardous.
Take necessary caution while performing this step as it can be very dangerous because the
fluid is highly flammable.

 Step 3: Light up the bead of your tire using your lighter or matchbox. Make sure to stay at
a safe distance while lighting it on fire. After lighting it up you will hear a popping sound,
that’s when your tire will pop and you have to instantly put the fire out using your fire
extinguisher.

 Step 4: Fill the tire up with air and you are good to go!

Be aware that there can be some side effects to this process such as Pyrolysis, which is the
chemical reaction that causes the tire to deteriorate, it can go on for a few seconds or sometimes
even for hours. Pyrolysis is caused by the tire being superheated. Exposure to too much heat can
also cause it to explode in worse scenarios so you have got to be careful when performing this
method.

 Using an Air Compressor and lubricant:

This is a more traditional way, the tire bead is generally reseated on the rim in this
manner. This method is much safer than the previous method but it is not as quick as that one.
Generally, it all comes down to preference but for this method, you will need a lubricant/soapy
water, an air compressor, and a ratchet strap.
 Step 1: Just like in the fire blast method, you have to clean the tire and make sure there is
no dirt on it. You can feel free to wash it thoroughly.

 Step 2: Spray a lubricant around the tire bead after making sure the bead area is clean.
This lubricant will make it easier for the bead to slide into the rim more quickly. You can
also use soapy water if you don’t have access to bottled lubricant.

 Step 3: It is advised that you remove the tire's Schrader valve in order to make sure that
enough air enters the tire and imposes enough pressure to push the tire bed to the rim.

 Step 4: By wrapping the tire with your ratchet strap, you'll close or reduce the space
between the tire's bead and rim by pushing the tire's sidewall toward the rim.

 Step 5: Pump enough air into the tire using your compressor or air tank so that the bead is
once again seated on the rim. You might need to push the rim in and push the tire out to
close the gap if the tire can still hold enough air due to the gap between the bead and the
rim. You can use more lubricant if you don’t see the bead moving toward the rim when
applying air pressure.

 Step 6: Reinstall the Schrader valve and pump air in your tire to complete the process.
You are now prepared to resume rolling.
This method is much safer than the fire blast method, but it can be challenging when working
with bigger tires as they require more strength from you.

How To Pop a Tire Using a Knife:

Using a knife to pop a tire is surprisingly easy and doesn't require much sophistication to pop a
tire. The quickest way to pop a tire is probably using a sharp knife to do it. It depends on the firm
grip of your hands and the sharp blade of your knife.
Simply take your pocket knife, apply a little pressure, and slide the blade along the tire's sidewall
to pop the tire. Without creating a lot of noise, the tire will quickly lose air. Sharp objects like
screwdrivers or nails are other tools you can use to pop or slash tires silently. Keep in mind that
you have to use a sharp knife to slash it because it will be a lot harder with a dull knife, any sharp
knife whether a pocket knife or a cooking knife can do the job for you.

Conclusion:
Learning how to pop your tires is great as you won't have to depend on the mechanic anymore to
do it. Furthermore, you mustn’t apply these methods on tires that aren’t yours because that comes
as an act of vandalism. While performing these methods, please make sure to take all safety
precautions because some of these steps can be dangerous but with enough precautions and using
any given method you prefer, you can master popping a tire easily and safely.
