Anne Frank, an impactful diarist who described everyday life hiding from the Nazi

Germans, reminds us, “No one has ever become poor by giving.” She contemplates all the good

still left in the world despite her experience with human brutality. Even in a crisis, Anne looks

for comeliness in the world. To add to that, she acknowledges that it is easy for people to make

excuses on why they do not share the bounties they have, but reminds people that helping others

will not make someone “become poor”. In this way, she challenges us to think about how we

may give: giving money, giving one's time, giving generosity and kindness, and giving items to

someone who needs them more. Doing so helps us consider how giving to someone else can

benefit them. In other words, how can our generosity help people in the world? How can we help

improve someone’s life? While none of us will likely have the chance to help people like Anne

Frank, a generous heart is something we should all strive for.
