1 Introduction
The Objectives of ORU-M (Operator Replaceable Unit Management)
ORU-M system enables users to replace the machine units by themselves. It also helps to minimize machine
downtime.

2 Safety Precautions
WARNING Failure to heed this warning could cause serious injury or even death.
CAUTION Failure to heed this caution could result in injury or damage to property.

the precautions depicted within into the symbol.

CAUTION
When replacing the units, be sure to receive instructions from our customer
engineer, read the ORU-M REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS in entirety and
perform tasks in the specified order with appropriate tools. Do not perform
any tasks that are not described in the ORU-M REPLACEMENT INSTRUC-
TIONS. Failure to follow specified order or use appropriate tools could result
in injury or physical damage to the product.
Please be careful when handling the fusing unit since it can be very hot.
It could cause a burn.
WARNING
Do not drop metal pieces such as clips, staples and screws inside the prod-
uct or into crevices in it.
They could cause a short-circuit in the product, resulting in an electric shock
or a fire.
Ensure cables are not pinched or damaged.
It could cause an electric shock or a fire due to electric leakage.
CAUTION
Do not place the unit removed in ORU-M tasks on an unstable table or sloped
surface, or in a location subject to excessive shocks or vibrations.
It could drop or fall and may cause personal injury.
Please pay careful attention to the surroundings when placing the unit re-
moved in ORU-M tasks.
Protruding portions, cords or wires of the unit may cause falling or personal
injury.
WARNING
Do not unplug and plug in the power cord with a wet hand, as an electrical
shock could result.
Plug the power cord all the way into the power outlet. Failure to do this could
result in a fire or electrical shock.
CAUTION
Do not tug the power cord when unplugging. Tugging the cord to do this
could damage it, resulting in a fire, electrical shock, or breakdown.
WARNING
The inside of this product has areas subject to high temperature, which may
cause burns. When inspecting the inside of the product such as when replac-
ing the units, do not touch the locations (around the fusing unit, etc.) which
are indicated by a "High Temperature" caution label.
7 CAUTION
DO NOT remove warning or caution labels!
- Should any warning or caution label be removed, you may fail to check a specific part to be alert for
unexpected trouble or injury. If you find any warning or caution label removed or illegible due to soilage,
please contact your service representative.
7 CAUTION
DO NOT touch the fusing part of the fixing conveyance unit. Otherwise, you may get burned.
- Please be especially careful in withdrawing the fixing conveyance unit or opening the fusing part.
7 CAUTION
DO NOT put your hand or arm between the main body and the fixing conveyance unit.
- Touching connecting terminals of electric parts may damage the machine or cause unexpected trouble.
Please do not try to work yourself, but contact your service representative.
7 WARNING
NEVER throw the waste toner box into a fire.
- Otherwise, the toner may ignite and cause a dangerous situation.
1 Press [Utility/Counter].
The Utility screen is displayed.
The screen to agree on the responsibility for the ORU-M operations is displayed.
If the ORU-M password is set, the ORU-M Password screen to enter the password is displayed. Pro-
ceed to step 4.
NOTICE
The ORU-M password is not set initially. If you want to set the ORU-M password, please contact your
service representative.
The ORU-M password cannot be modified. If you want to modify it, please contact your service repre-
sentative.
NOTICE
Initially, all units are displayed regardless of the need for replacement. You can configure it to display
only the units needed to be replaced. You can also modify the threshold to decide whether to display
the unit to be replaced or not. Please contact your service representative for details.
6 Display the replacement procedure guide and check the procedures of the unit replacement.
You can confirm the unit replacement procedure before you actually replace them.
If you do not need to display the replacement procedure guide, proceed to step 7.
(4) When you confirm the replacement procedure, press the [Close] button twice.
NOTICE
When you want to replace a fusing unit or a unit other than the fusing cleaning web, make sure to re-
move the fusing unit when this screen is displayed.
CAUTION
Press [Yes].
% To cancel the replacement, press [Cancel] and put the fusing unit back into place. Press [OK].
NOTICE
For the procedure to set the fusing unit, refer to page 3-16.
Make sure that the lever M4 is brought down and Tray 1 and Tray 2 are correctly set, then press
[Yes].
NOTICE
You can confirm the replacement procedure by pressing[Replacement Procedure] on the ORU-M Re-
placement Unit screen and display the replacement procedure guide during the repleacement work.
Please refer to step 6 for details.
8 Fix the new transfer belt cleaning unit according the guide
pin.
NOTICE
Be careful not to catch the bundled cables when installing
the transfer belt cleaning unit.
13 Insert the transfer belt unit [3] and [4] at an angle of 45 de-
grees while holding the areas [1] and [2], then set [5] in the
direction indicated by the arrow.
NOTICE
Be careful not to catch the bundled cables when installing
the transfer belt unit.
1 When the replacement is completed, press [Complete Replacement] on the ORU-M Replacement Unit
screen.
(1) Pull out the ADU drawer and open the reversal
output part. Set the fusing unit [3] to the cor-
rect position while holding both the front side
[1] and the rear side [2] handles.
Slide the unit in the direction indicated by the
arrow until it reaches the rear side.
Press [Yes].
If the [Replace Reason] button is not displayed in the list of the Register ORU-M Replacement Unit
screen, press the checkbox next to the [Unit Name].
The replace reason that you selected is displayed in the column of [Replace Reason] button and a
checkmark is displayed next to the unit name.
NOTICE
Be sure to select a reason for the replacement. Otherwise, the life cycle counter of the replaced unit will
not be reset.
6 Press [Done].
The dialog box asking to reset the counter of the selected unit is displayed.
8 Make sure that the life cycle value of the replaced unit has been cleared.

5 Fusing Unit
When you want to replace an ORU-M unit, switch the machine to the ORU-M mode and follow the proce-
dures on the screen to replace the unit.
This document is comprised of the following sections, in order of screen appearance; Prerequisites for Re-
placing ORU-M Units explains how to switch the machine to the ORU-M mode and prepare for replacement;
Replacing ORU-M Units explains the procedures to replace the ORU-M units; and Procedure after ORU-M
Unit Replacement explains the procedures to be performed after replacement.
You should print this document out and have the hard copy on hand when you start replacement work.
1 Press [Utility/Counter].
The Utility screen is displayed.

Make sure that the lever M4 is brought down and Tray 1 and Tray 2 are correctly set, then press

placement Unit screen and display the replacement procedure guide during the repleacement work.

6 Hold both the front side [1] and the rear side [2] handles
and set the new fusing unit [3] to the correct position.
Slide the unit in the direction indicated by the arrow until it
reaches the rear side.
9 Insert the ADU drawer [1], then lock it by lifting the lever
M4[2] in the direction indicated by the arrow.
1 When the replacement is completed, press [Complete Replacement] on the ORU-M Replacement Unit
screen.
If the [Replace Reason] button is not displayed in the list of the Register ORU-M Replacement Unit
screen, press the checkbox next to the [Unit Name].
The replace reason that you selected is displayed in the column of [Replace Reason] button and a

placement Unit screen and display the replacement procedure guide during the repleacement work.
Please refer to step 6 for details.
2 Release the lock [1] and pull out the intermediate toner
hopper, then release the lock [2] and open in the direction
indicated by the arrow.
4 Slowly rotate the drum lock knob [1] clockwise [2] more
than one revolution in order to remove the toner on the
drum. Then, firmly rotate the drum lock knob counter-
clockwise [3] to remove it[1].
7 Remove the charging corona unit [3] while holding the ar-
eas [1] and [2].
8 Hold the areas [1] and [2] of the new charging corona unit
[3], then align it into the fitting to install it by fitting and
pushing the areas [1] and [2].
NOTICE
Be careful not to catch the bundled cables when installing
the charging corona unit.
10 Insert the drum part [3] with holding the drum lock levers
[1][2], then lock the drum lock levers [1][2] by rotating them
in the direction indicated by the arrow.
11 Fix the drum lock knob [1], and tighten it by rotating clock-
wise.
NOTICE
If the coupling of the drum is sticking out to the front, make
sure to push it back in.
1 When the replacement is completed, press [Complete Replacement] on the ORU-M Replacement Unit
screen.
(1) Pull out the ADU drawer and open the reversal
output part. Set the fusing unit [3] to the cor-
rect position while holding both the front side
[1] and the rear side [2] handles.
Slide the unit in the direction indicated by the
arrow until it reaches the rear side.
Press [Yes].
NOTICE
If a connector of the charging corona or LPH is not connected after the charging corona is replaced,
the Detected disengagement of connector screen will be displayed.
A detailed screen to show the place of the disconnected connector will be displayed.
The replace reason that you selected is displayed in the column of [Replace Reason] button and a
checkmark is displayed next to the unit name.
6 Press [Done].
The dialog box asking to reset the counter of the selected unit is displayed.
7 Press [Yes].
10 Press [Done].

3 Hold the pick up roller assy [1], raise and rotate the feed
roller [3], center it on the pick up roller axis [2], then remove
it from the bushing holding metal parts [4][5].
NOTICE
Please be careful not to damage the sensor when remov-
ing pick up roller assy.
4 Release the pick up roller shaft [2] from the feed guide
plate arm [1], then remove the pick up roller assy [3].
6 Remove the pick up roller [1] and the feed roller [2] from the
metal plate.
7 Remove the feed roller shaft clip [1], then remove the feed
roller [2] and the pick up roller [3] from the roller shaft.
8 Remove the feed roller rubber [2] from the feed roller [1].
Remove the pick up roller rubber [4] from the pick up roller
[3].
9 Set the new feed roller rubber [1] to the feed roller [2].
Set the new pick up roller rubber [3] to the pick up roller [4],
fitting it to the groove.
11 Set the clip [2] to the feed roller shaft [1], then set to the
metal plate.
12 Set the double bushing holder [1], then set the clip [2] (1
piece).
14 Remove the clips [1] (2 pieces), then flip over the clear film
[2].
NOTICE
Please be careful not to adhere the grease on gear and
clear film to the roller surface.
16 Remove the clip [1], then remove the separation roller rub-
ber [3] from the roller shaft [2]. Remove the separation roll-
er [4] from the separation roller rubber [3].
18 Flip over the clear film [1], fix the separation roller [2] in-
cluding the roller shaft to the shaft holder [3] by sliding in
the direction indicated by the arrow, fitting the roller shaft
into the shaft holder.
20 Set the entrance guide plate [1], then set the clips [2] (2
pieces).
21 Insert the pick up roller shaft [1] of the new pick up roller
assy to the feed guide plate arm [2].
1 When the replacement is completed, press [Complete Replacement] on the ORU-M Replacement Unit
screen.
(1) Pull out the ADU drawer and open the reversal
output part. Set the fusing unit [3] to the cor-
rect position while holding both the front side
[1] and the rear side [2] handles.
Slide the unit in the direction indicated by the
arrow until it reaches the rear side.
Press [Yes].

4 Remove the top part of the fusing unit [1][2] while holding
the knobs [3].
CAUTION
Be careful in handling the fusing unit because it may be
very hot.
6 Set the web supply roller [1] and collection roller [2] of the
new fusing cleaning web.
7 Wind the web on the collection roller until the blue line [3]
on the web completely disappears by rotating the gears
[1][2].
8 Set the top part of the fusing unit [3] while holding the
knobs [1][2], then push the knobs down.
10 Insert the ADU drawer [1] then lock it by lifting the ADU re-
lease lever [2] in the direction indicated by the arrow.
1 When the replacement is completed, press [Complete Replacement] on the ORU-M Replacement Unit
screen.
If the [Replace Reason] button is not displayed in the list of the Register ORU-M Replacement Unit
screen, press the checkbox next to the [Unit Name].
The replace reason that you selected is displayed in the column of [Replace Reason] button and a

2 Release the lock [1] and pull out the intermediate toner
hopper, then release the lock [2] and open in the direction
indicated by the arrow.
4 Slowly rotate the drum lock knob [1] clockwise [2] more
than one revolution in order to remove the toner on the
drum. Then, firmly rotate the drum lock knob counter-
clockwise [3] to remove it[1].
NOTICE
If the blade lever [4] has been lifted, perform the following
steps to lower the lever.
(1) Keep the left side lever of the cleaning part lifted
towards the direction indicated by the arrow.
(2) Rotate the blade lever [4] all the way down in the
direction indicated by the arrow, then release it.
(3) Release the left side lever.
10 Insert the drum part [3] with holding the drum lock levers
[1][2], then lock the drum lock levers [1][2] by rotating
them in the direction indicated by the arrow.
11 Fix the drum lock knob [1], and tighten it by rotating clock-
wise.
NOTICE
If the coupling of the drum is sticking out to the front, make
sure to push it back in.
14 Fix the cover of the drum part [1], then tighten the screws
[2] (2 pieces) on the right first then the left.
1 When the replacement is completed, press [Complete Replacement] on the ORU-M Replacement Unit
screen.
(1) Pull out the ADU drawer and open the reversal
output part. Set the fusing unit [3] to the cor-
rect position while holding both the front side
[1] and the rear side [2] handles.
Slide the unit in the direction indicated by the
arrow until it reaches the rear side.
Press [Yes].
NOTICE
If a connector of the drum cleaner or LPH is not connected after the drum cleaner is replaced, the De-
tected disengagement of connector screen will be displayed.
A detailed screen to show the place of the disconnected connector will be displayed.
The replace reason that you selected is displayed in the column of [Replace Reason] button and a
checkmark is displayed next to the unit name.
6 Press [Done].
The dialog box asking to reset the counter of the selected unit is displayed.

then lock the drum lock levers [1][2] by rotating them in the
direction indicated by the arrow.
12 Fix the drum lock knob [1], and tighten it by rotating clock-
wise.
NOTICE
If the coupling of the drum is sticking out to the front, make
sure to push it back in.
15 Fix the cover of the drum part [1], then tighten the screws
[2] (2 pieces) on the right first then the left.

8 To release the stopper of the PCC unit, rotate the PCC unit
lock knob [1] at 90 degrees while pulling out.
9 Slide the PCC unit [1] in the direction indicated by the ar-
row [2].
Lift up the PCC unit [1] in the direction indicated by the ar-
row [3], releasing the front side first, and then the rear.
NOTICE
When removing PCC unit, cover the drum surface with
sheet of paper in order to prevent scratching to the drum
surface.
10 Set the angle of the new PCC unit to the receiver, then fix
the unit by sliding to the back.
NOTICE
When fixing PCC unit, please set the back side then set the
front side.
NOTICE
Please be careful not to scratch the drum surface. When
the PCC unit is installed, remove the paper which was in-
serted in step 9.
(1) Hold the areas [1] and [2] of the charging co-
rona unit [3], then align it into the fitting to in-
stall it by fitting and pushing the areas [1] and
[2].
Important:
Be careful not to catch the bundled cables
when installing the charging corona unit.
14 Insert the drum part [3] with holding the drum lock levers
[1][2], then lock the drum lock levers [1][2] by rotating them
in the direction indicated by the arrow.
15 Fix the drum lock knob [1], and tighten it by rotating clock-
wise.
NOTICE

18 Fix the cover of the drum part [1], then tighten the screws
[2] (2 pieces) on the right first then the left.
