1

1 Introduction
The Objectives of ORU-M (Operator Replaceable Unit Management)
ORU-M system enables users to replace the machine units by themselves. It also helps to minimize machine
downtime.

Notice to users of ORU-M


Make sure you take trainings and obtain a certificate of approval before using the ORU-M.
When replacing the machine units, please follow the instructions written in the ORU-M (Operator Replaceable
Unit Management) REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS.
To perform replacement tasks safely and reliably, keep the ORU-M (Operator Replaceable Unit Management)
REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS and do not lose them. If you lose the instructions, contact your service rep-
resentative.

2.1 Notices for Safety


The followings are what you need to follow to safely replace the units. Please be sure to read the precautions
before replacing the units.
- Keep the ORU-M REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS at hand for your future reference and be careful not
to lose it.
- Make sure you follow the safety precautions listed in the ORU-M REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS.

2.1.1 Meanings of Indicators


The various types of indicators are used as warning in the ORU-M REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS and on
the product labels to prevent injury to you and other and damege to property.
The table below lists symbols and their meanings.

WARNING Failure to heed this warning could cause serious injury or even death.
CAUTION Failure to heed this caution could result in injury or damage to property.

2.1.2 Meanings of Symbols

A triangle indicates a danger against which you should take precaution. You can find details of
the precautions depicted within into the symbol.
(Example) A symbol representing "High Temperature".
A diagonal line indicates a prohibited course of action. You can find specific forbidden actions
within or near the symbols.
(Example) A symbol representing "Prohibition of Disassembly".
This symbol indicates an imperative course of action. You can find specific instructions within
the symbols.
(Example) A symbol meaning "Unplug the Power Cord".

2.2 Precautions When Replacing Units

2.2.1 Preparation Tasks before Replacing Units

CAUTION

When replacing the units, be sure to receive instructions from our customer
engineer, read the ORU-M REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS in entirety and
perform tasks in the specified order with appropriate tools. Do not perform
any tasks that are not described in the ORU-M REPLACEMENT INSTRUC-
TIONS. Failure to follow specified order or use appropriate tools could result
in injury or physical damage to the product.
Please be careful when handling the fusing unit since it can be very hot.
It could cause a burn.

2.2.2 ORU-M Replacement Tasks

WARNING

Do not drop metal pieces such as clips, staples and screws inside the prod-
uct or into crevices in it.
They could cause a short-circuit in the product, resulting in an electric shock
or a fire.
Ensure cables are not pinched or damaged.
It could cause an electric shock or a fire due to electric leakage.

CAUTION

Do not place the unit removed in ORU-M tasks on an unstable table or sloped
surface, or in a location subject to excessive shocks or vibrations.
It could drop or fall and may cause personal injury.
Please pay careful attention to the surroundings when placing the unit re-
moved in ORU-M tasks.
Protruding portions, cords or wires of the unit may cause falling or personal
injury.

2.2.3 Power Plug

WARNING

Do not unplug and plug in the power cord with a wet hand, as an electrical
shock could result.

Plug the power cord all the way into the power outlet. Failure to do this could
result in a fire or electrical shock.

CAUTION

Do not tug the power cord when unplugging. Tugging the cord to do this
could damage it, resulting in a fire, electrical shock, or breakdown.

2.2.4 Actions in Response to Troubles

WARNING

If it becomes inordinately hot or emits smoke, or an unusual odor or noise,


immediately turn off the power switch of the product, and then unplug the
power cord from the outlet and contact your authorized service engineer.
If the units have been dropped or the covers damaged, immediately turn off
the power switch of the product, and then unplug the power cord from the
outlet and contact your authorized service engineer. If you continue using it
in this condition, a fire or electrical shock could result.
CAUTION

The inside of this product has areas subject to high temperature, which may
cause burns. When inspecting the inside of the product such as when replac-
ing the units, do not touch the locations (around the fusing unit, etc.) which
are indicated by a "High Temperature" caution label.

This machine has warning label, caution labels and indicators for safety precaution in the following location.
These labels and indicators advise you to pay special attention to avoid any dangerous situations or serious
injury when you replace the units.

7 CAUTION
DO NOT remove warning or caution labels!
- Should any warning or caution label be removed, you may fail to check a specific part to be alert for
unexpected trouble or injury. If you find any warning or caution label removed or illegible due to soilage,
please contact your service representative.

7 CAUTION
DO NOT touch the fusing part of the fixing conveyance unit. Otherwise, you may get burned.
- Please be especially careful in withdrawing the fixing conveyance unit or opening the fusing part.

DO NOT put your hand or arm between the main body and the fixing conveyance unit.
- Touching connecting terminals of electric parts may damage the machine or cause unexpected trouble.
Please do not try to work yourself, but contact your service representative.

3 Transfer Belt Cleaning Unit


When you want to replace an ORU-M unit, switch the machine to the ORU-M mode and follow the proce-
dures on the screen to replace the unit.
This document is comprised of the following sections, in order of screen appearance; Prerequisites for Re-
placing ORU-M Units explains how to switch the machine to the ORU-M mode and prepare for replacement;
Replacing ORU-M Units explains the procedures to replace the ORU-M units; and Procedure after ORU-M
Unit Replacement explains the procedures to be performed after replacement.
You should print this document out and have the hard copy on hand when you start replacement work.

3.1 Prerequisites for Replacing ORU-M Units


In order to start replacing of ORU-M units, follow the following steps to switch the machine to the ORU-M
mode.

1 Press [Utility/Counter].
The Utility screen is displayed.

2 Press [ORU-M (Unit Replace)].

The screen to agree on the responsibility for the ORU-M operations is displayed.
If the ORU-M password is set, the ORU-M Password screen to enter the password is displayed. Pro-
ceed to step 4.

3 If you agree, press [Yes].
If you do not agree, press [No]. The Utility screen will be restored.

The ORU-M Replacement Unit screen is displayed. Proceed to step 5.

4 Enter 4-digit ORU-M password, and then press [OK].


Use half-width alphanumeric characters for the ORU-M password. The half-width alphanumeric char-
acters used for the passwords are case-sensitive. You cannot use symbols and space character.

NOTICE
The ORU-M password is not set initially. If you want to set the ORU-M password, please contact your
service representative.
The ORU-M password cannot be modified. If you want to modify it, please contact your service repre-
sentative.

5 Confirm the units that you replace on the ORU-M Replacement Unit screen.
On this screen, units to be replaced are listed in the order from the nearest replacement time. The value
of life cycle will be greater than or equal to 100% and highlighted in red if the replacement time limit of
the unit exceed its life cycle. The date of last replacement is displayed on the right column of the list.
If you want to replace the unit now, proceed to step 8.

NOTICE
Initially, all units are displayed regardless of the need for replacement. You can configure it to display
only the units needed to be replaced. You can also modify the threshold to decide whether to display
the unit to be replaced or not. Please contact your service representative for details.

6 Display the replacement procedure guide and check the procedures of the unit replacement.
You can confirm the unit replacement procedure before you actually replace them.
If you do not need to display the replacement procedure guide, proceed to step 7.

(1) Press [Replacement Procedure].

The ORU-M Replacement Procedure screen is displayed.

(2) Press a button of an unit that you want to replace, and then press [Procedure Guide View].

The replacement guide screen is displayed.


(3) In order to move to previous or next page of the guide, press [*][)] at the bottom of the
guide screen.

(4) When you confirm the replacement procedure, press the [Close] button twice.

The ORU-M Replacement Unit screen will be restored.

7 Print a sample image.
If you do not need to print a sample image, or the [Print Mode] button is not displayed on the ORU-M
Peplacement Unit screen, proceed to step 8.
NOTICE
You can configure not to display the [Print Mode] on the ORU-M Replacement Unit screen. Please con-
tact your service representative, if desired.

(1) Press [Print Mode].

The PRINT MODE screen is displayed.


(2) Select a paper that is larger than A4, and press START on the control panel.

The sample image will be output on the specified paper.


(3) Press [Close].

The ORU-M Replacement Unit screen will be restored.

8 Press [Start Replacement].

The screen to confirm the ORU-M unit replacemen is displayed.

9 Remove the fusing unit before replacing the unit.


NOTICE
Do not press [Yes] before removing the fusing unit.

NOTICE
When you want to replace a fusing unit or a unit other than the fusing cleaning web, make sure to re-
move the fusing unit when this screen is displayed.

(1) Open the front door.

(2) Turn the lever M4 [1] in the direction indicated


by the arrow, then pull out the ADU drawer [2].

(3) Open the reversal output part [1].

(4) Loosen the lock screw (purple) [1] in the direc-


tion (counterclockwise) indicated by the arrow.

(5) Slide the fusing unit [3] in the direction indicat-


ed by the arrow while holding both the front
side [1] and the rear side [2] handles, then pull
up and remove it.

CAUTION

Be careful in handling the fusing unit because


it may be very hot.

Press [Yes].

10 Select a unit to replace.
Press [Others], then press [OK].

% To cancel the replacement, press [Cancel] and put the fusing unit back into place. Press [OK].
NOTICE
For the procedure to set the fusing unit, refer to page 3-16.

11 A message to notify you that the machine is being switched to the ORU-M mode.

Make sure that the lever M4 is brought down and Tray 1 and Tray 2 are correctly set, then press
[Yes].

12 When replacing units, please refer to page 3-12.

NOTICE
You can confirm the replacement procedure by pressing[Replacement Procedure] on the ORU-M Re-
placement Unit screen and display the replacement procedure guide during the repleacement work.
Please refer to step 6 for details.

3.2 Replacing ORU-M Units
NOTICE
You can check the procedure of unit replacement on the screen while you are performing the operation.
NOTICE
The replacement of this unit starts with the fusing unit removed. For details on how to remove the fusing unit,
refer to page 3-3.

1 Disconnect the connector [1] of the transfer belt unit.

2 Lift the transfer belt unit [3] at an angle of 45 degrees hold-


ing the areas [1] and [2], then pull in out.
Keep the removed transfer belt unit on the flat surface.

3 Loosen the screws [1] (3 pieces) of ADU drawer cover, then


remove the cover.

4 Disconnect the connectors [1] (2 pieces). Release the con-


nector [2] from the wire saddle.

5 Remove the black screws [1] (4 pieces).
NOTICE
Be careful not to drop the screws when removing them.

6 Pull up and remove the relay part.

7 Remove the transfer belt cleaning unit in the direction indi-


cated by the arrow.

8 Fix the new transfer belt cleaning unit according the guide
pin.
NOTICE
Be careful not to catch the bundled cables when installing
the transfer belt cleaning unit.

9 Insert the relay part to its original position.

10 Tighten the black screws [1] (4 pieces).

11 Connect the connectors [1] (2 pieces) so that the blue one


is on the left and the white one is on the right. Fix the con-
nector [2] by the wire saddle.
NOTICE
Be careful not to connect a wrong connector.

12 Fix the cover of ADU drawer by tightening the screws [1] (3


pieces).
NOTICE
Be careful not to catch the bundled cables when installing
the ADU drawer cover.

13 Insert the transfer belt unit [3] and [4] at an angle of 45 de-
grees while holding the areas [1] and [2], then set [5] in the
direction indicated by the arrow.

Be careful not to catch the bundled cables when installing
the transfer belt unit.

When you finished replacing the ORU-M unit, go on to the following operations.

1 When the replacement is completed, press [Complete Replacement] on the ORU-M Replacement Unit
screen.

The power of the machine will be turned on automatically.


NOTICE
You can return to the replacement procedures again and restart the procedures if the [Continue re-
placement] button is displayed on the screen. Please use this button if you need to replace other units.
Once you start the adjustment procedure, the [Continue replacement] button is not displayed on this
screen and you cannot return to the replacement procedures.

3.3 Procedure after ORU-M Unit Replacement

2 Install the fusing unit.

(1) Pull out the ADU drawer and open the reversal
output part. Set the fusing unit [3] to the cor-
rect position while holding both the front side
[1] and the rear side [2] handles.
Slide the unit in the direction indicated by the
arrow until it reaches the rear side.

(2) Push the lock screw (purple) [1], then tighten


by rotating in the direction indicated by the ar-
row with a screwdriver.

(3) Close the reversal output part [1].

(4) Insert the ADU drawer [1], then lock it by lifting
the lever M4[2] in the direction indicated by the
arrow.

(5) Close the front door.

Press [Yes].

The Register ORU-M Replacement Unit screen is displayed.

3 Select the name of the replaced unit.
% If you have replaced more than one unit, you can select the ones with the same reason to be regis-
tered all at once.

If the [Replace Reason] button is not displayed in the list of the Register ORU-M Replacement Unit
screen, press the checkbox next to the [Unit Name].

The checkmark is displayed. Proceed to step 5.


% You can select multiple unit names at one time. You can perform subsequent tasks together by se-
lecting all units you replaced.
NOTICE
Only service engineer can configure not to display the [Replace Reason] button on the Register ORU-
M Replacement Unit screen. Please contact your service representative, if desired.

4 Press the [Replace Reason] button.


The dialog to select a reason to replace is displayed.

5 Select a button for replace reason, then press [OK].

The replace reason that you selected is displayed in the column of [Replace Reason] button and a
checkmark is displayed next to the unit name.
NOTICE
Be sure to select a reason for the replacement. Otherwise, the life cycle counter of the replaced unit will
not be reset.

6 Press [Done].

The dialog box asking to reset the counter of the selected unit is displayed.

7 Press [Yes].

The life cycle counter of the replaced unit will be reset.


% Press [No] to retain the current counter value.
The screen to review the life of replace ORU-M units is displayed.

8 Make sure that the life cycle value of the replaced unit has been cleared.

9 Print a sample image.
If you do not need to print a sample image, or the [Print Mode] button is not displayed on the ORU-M
Peplacement Unit screen, proceed to step 10.
NOTICE
You can configure not to display the [Print Mode] on the ORU-M Replacement Unit screen. Please con-
tact your service representative, if desired.

(1) Press [Print Mode].

The PRINT MODE screen is displayed.


(2) Select a paper that is larger than A4, and press START on the control panel.

The sample image will be output on the specified paper.


(3) Confirm the result of the adjustment by comparing the samples before and after the adjust-
ment.
(4) Press [Close].

The ORU-M Replacement Unit screen will be restored.

When you want to replace an ORU-M unit, switch the machine to the ORU-M mode and follow the proce-
dures on the screen to replace the unit.
This document is comprised of the following sections, in order of screen appearance; Prerequisites for Re-
placing ORU-M Units explains how to switch the machine to the ORU-M mode and prepare for replacement;
Replacing ORU-M Units explains the procedures to replace the ORU-M units; and Procedure after ORU-M
Unit Replacement explains the procedures to be performed after replacement.
You should print this document out and have the hard copy on hand when you start replacement work.

5.1 Prerequisites for Replacing ORU-M Units


In order to start replacing of ORU-M units, follow the following steps to switch the machine to the ORU-M
mode.

1 Press [Utility/Counter].
The Utility screen is displayed.

2 Press [ORU-M (Unit Replace)].

The screen to agree on the responsibility for the ORU-M operations is displayed.
If the ORU-M password is set, the ORU-M Password screen to enter the password is displayed. Pro-
ceed to step 4.

the unit exceed its life cycle. The date of last replacement is displayed on the right column of the list.
If you want to replace the unit now, proceed to step 8.

NOTICE
Initially, all units are displayed regardless of the need for replacement. You can configure it to display
only the units needed to be replaced. You can also modify the threshold to decide whether to display
the unit to be replaced or not. Please contact your service representative for details.

6 Display the replacement procedure guide and check the procedures of the unit replacement.
You can confirm the unit replacement procedure before you actually replace them.
If you do not need to display the replacement procedure guide, proceed to step 7.

hopper, then release the lock [2] and open in the direction

4 Slowly rotate the drum lock knob [1] clockwise [2] more
than one revolution in order to remove the toner on the
drum. Then, firmly rotate the drum lock knob counter-
clockwise [3] to remove it[1].

5 Turn the left [1] and right [2] lock levers in the direction in-
dicated by the arrow, then pull out the drum part to the
front.

6 Release the wire saddle [1], and disconnect the connec-

7 Remove the charging corona unit [3] while holding the ar-
eas [1] and [2].

8 Hold the areas [1] and [2] of the new charging corona unit
[3], then align it into the fitting to install it by fitting and
pushing the areas [1] and [2].
NOTICE
Be careful not to catch the bundled cables when installing
the charging corona unit.

9 Connect the connectors [1] (2 pieces) and fasten the wire


saddle [2].

1 When the replacement is completed, press [Complete Replacement] on the ORU-M Replacement Unit

You can return to the replacement procedures again and restart the procedures if the [Continue re-
placement] button is displayed on the screen. Please use this button if you need to replace other units.
Once you start the adjustment procedure, the [Continue replacement] button is not displayed on this

When you want to replace an ORU-M unit, switch the machine to the ORU-M mode and follow the proce-
dures on the screen to replace the unit.
This document is comprised of the following sections, in order of screen appearance; Prerequisites for Re-
placing ORU-M Units explains how to switch the machine to the ORU-M mode and prepare for replacement;
Replacing ORU-M Units explains the procedures to replace the ORU-M units; and Procedure after ORU-M
Unit Replacement explains the procedures to be performed after replacement.
You should print this document out and have the hard copy on hand when you start replacement work.

7.1 Prerequisites for Replacing ORU-M Units


In order to start replacing of ORU-M units, follow the following steps to switch the machine to the ORU-M
mode.

1 Press [Utility/Counter].
The Utility screen is displayed.

2 Press [ORU-M (Unit Replace)].

The screen to agree on the responsibility for the ORU-M operations is displayed.
If the ORU-M password is set, the ORU-M Password screen to enter the password is displayed. Pro-
ceed to step 4.

If you do not agree, press [No]. The Utility screen will be restored.

Use half-width alphanumeric characters for the ORU-M password. The half-width alphanumeric char-
acters used for the passwords are case-sensitive. You cannot use symbols and space character.

NOTICE
The ORU-M password is not set initially. If you want to set the ORU-M password, please contact your
service representative.
The ORU-M password cannot be modified. If you want to modify it, please contact your service repre-
sentative.

5 Confirm the units that you replace on the ORU-M Replacement Unit screen.
On this screen, units to be replaced are listed in the order from the nearest replacement time. The value
of life cycle will be greater than or equal to 100% and highlighted in red if the replacement time limit of
the unit exceed its life cycle. The date of last replacement is displayed on the right column of the list.
If you want to replace the unit now, proceed to step 8.

NOTICE
Initially, all units are displayed regardless of the need for replacement. You can configure it to display
only the units needed to be replaced. You can also modify the threshold to decide whether to display
the unit to be replaced or not. Please contact your service representative for details.

6 Display the replacement procedure guide and check the procedures of the unit replacement.
You can confirm the unit replacement procedure before you actually replace them.
If you do not need to display the replacement procedure guide, proceed to step 7.

(1) Press [Replacement Procedure].

The ORU-M Replacement Procedure screen is displayed.

up and remove it.

CAUTION

Be careful in handling the fusing unit because


it may be very hot.

(6) Close the reversal output part and put the ADU
drawer back into place.

Please make sure to lift the lever M4 after returning the ADU drawer to its original position.

10 Select a unit to replace.


Press [Feed Roller Unit(Tray1)] to replace Feed Roller Unit (Tray 1). Press [Feed Roller Unit(Tray2)] to
replace Feed Roller Unit (Tray 2).

% To cancel the replacement, press [Cancel] and put the fusing unit back into place. Press [OK].

The replacement of this unit starts with the fusing unit removed. For details on how to remove the fusing unit,

1 Rotate the pick up roller [1] in the _direction indicated by


the arrow (counterclockwise), then make the cutout on
coupling [2] vertical.
Remove the clips [3] (2 pieces).
NOTICE
Pick up roller [1] can be rotated only in the direction indi-
cated by the arrow (counterclockwise). Please do not ro-
tate in the opposite direction (clockwise).

2 Remove the bushing (front) [1], then move the bushing


(rear) [2] to the rear side on the shaft.

3 Hold the pick up roller assy [1], raise and rotate the feed
roller [3], center it on the pick up roller axis [2], then remove
it from the bushing holding metal parts [4][5].
NOTICE
Please be careful not to damage the sensor when remov-
ing pick up roller assy.

4 Release the pick up roller shaft [2] from the feed guide
plate arm [1], then remove the pick up roller assy [3].

er[2] (1 piece).

6 Remove the pick up roller [1] and the feed roller [2] from the
metal plate.

roller [2] and the pick up roller [3] from the roller shaft.

8 Remove the feed roller rubber [2] from the feed roller [1].
Remove the pick up roller rubber [4] from the pick up roller
[3].

9 Set the new feed roller rubber [1] to the feed roller [2].
Set the new pick up roller rubber [3] to the pick up roller [4],
fitting it to the groove.

10 Set the feed roller [1] and the pick up roller [2] to the roller
shaft [3].

11 Set the clip [2] to the feed roller shaft [1], then set to the
metal plate.

12 Set the double bushing holder [1], then set the clip [2] (1
piece).

13 Remove the clips [1] (2 pieces) on the outside of the tray,


then remove the entrance guide plate [2].

14 Remove the clips [1] (2 pieces), then flip over the clear film
[2].

Please be careful not to adhere the grease on gear and
clear film to the roller surface.

15 Slide the separation roller [1] in the direction indicated by


the arrow, then remove it including the roller shaft[2].

16 Remove the clip [1], then remove the separation roller rub-

er [4] from the separation roller rubber [3].

17 Set the separation roller [1] to the new separation roller


rubber [2], then set the separation roller rubber [2] to the
roller shaft[3].Set the clip[4] to the roller shaft [3].

18 Flip over the clear film [1], fix the separation roller [2] in-
cluding the roller shaft to the shaft holder [3] by sliding in
the direction indicated by the arrow, fitting the roller shaft
into the shaft holder.

19 Return the clear film [1] to its original position, then set the
clips [2] (2 pieces).

20 Set the entrance guide plate [1], then set the clips [2] (2
pieces).

21 Insert the pick up roller shaft [1] of the new pick up roller
assy to the feed guide plate arm [2].

22 Rotate the pick up roller assy [2] centering on the pick up


roller shaft [1], then insert the feed roller shaft [3] and cou-
pling [4] to the cutout [5] and the guide plate joint [6].
NOTICE
Please make sure to engage the coupling of the feed roller
to the joint.

Please be careful not to damage the sensor when fixing the
pick up roller assy.

23 Insert the bushing(rear) [2] to the holder fixing metal parts
opening [3] with slight downward pressure to the pick up
roller assy metal plate [1], then insert the bushing (front) [4]

24 Set the clips [1] (2 pieces).


Confirm if the feed roller [3], belt [4], and coupling area[5]
can smoothly rotate by turning the pick up roller [2] in the
direction indicated by the arrow(counterclockwise).
NOTICE
Pick up roller [1] can be rotated only in the direction indi-
cated by the arrow (counterclockwise). Please do not ro-
tate in the opposite direction (clockwise).

1 Open the front door.

2 Turn the lever M4[1] in the direction indicated by the arrow,


then pull out the ADU drawer [2].

3 Remove the screws [1] (2 pieces).

4 Remove the top part of the fusing unit [1][2] while holding
the knobs [3].
CAUTION
Be careful in handling the fusing unit because it may be
very hot.

5 Remove the used fusing cleaning web [1] by sliding it in the
direction indicated by the arrow.
CAUTION
Be careful when you perform the replacement because the
top part of the fusing unit may be very hot.

6 Set the web supply roller [1] and collection roller [2] of the
new fusing cleaning web.

7 Wind the web on the collection roller until the blue line [3]
on the web completely disappears by rotating the gears
[1][2].

8 Set the top part of the fusing unit [3] while holding the
knobs [1][2], then push the knobs down.

9 Tighten the screws [1] (2 pieces).

10 Insert the ADU drawer [1] then lock it by lifting the ADU re-
lease lever [2] in the direction indicated by the arrow.

When you finished replacing the ORU-M unit, go on to the following operations.

1 When the replacement is completed, press [Complete Replacement] on the ORU-M Replacement Unit
screen.

The power of the machine will be turned on automatically.


NOTICE
You can return to the replacement procedures again and restart the procedures if the [Continue re-
placement] button is displayed on the screen. Please use this button if you need to replace other units.
Once you start the adjustment procedure, the [Continue replacement] button is not displayed on this
screen and you cannot return to the replacement procedures.

% If you have replaced more than one unit, you can select the ones with the same reason to be regis-
tered all at once.

If the [Replace Reason] button is not displayed in the list of the Register ORU-M Replacement Unit
screen, press the checkbox next to the [Unit Name].

The checkmark is displayed. Proceed to step 5.


% You can select multiple unit names at one time. You can perform subsequent tasks together by se-
lecting all units you replaced.
NOTICE
Only service engineer can configure not to display the [Replace Reason] button on the Register ORU-
M Replacement Unit screen. Please contact your service representative, if desired.

3 Press the [Replace Reason] button.


The dialog to select a reason to replace is displayed.

5 Press [Done].

(1) Press [Print Mode].

The PRINT MODE screen is displayed.


(2) Select a paper that is larger than A4, and press START on the control panel.

The sample image will be output on the specified paper.


(3) Confirm the result of the adjustment by comparing the samples before and after the adjust-
ment.
(4) Press [Close].

The ORU-M Replacement Unit screen will be restored.

9 Drum Cleaner
When you want to replace an ORU-M unit, switch the machine to the ORU-M mode and follow the proce-
dures on the screen to replace the unit.
This document is comprised of the following sections, in order of screen appearance; Prerequisites for Re-
placing ORU-M Units explains how to switch the machine to the ORU-M mode and prepare for replacement;
Replacing ORU-M Units explains the procedures to replace the ORU-M units; and Procedure after ORU-M
Unit Replacement explains the procedures to be performed after replacement.
You should print this document out and have the hard copy on hand when you start replacement work.

9.1 Prerequisites for Replacing ORU-M Units


In order to start replacing of ORU-M units, follow the following steps to switch the machine to the ORU-M
mode.

1 Press [Utility/Counter].
The Utility screen is displayed.

2 Press [ORU-M (Unit Replace)].

The screen to agree on the responsibility for the ORU-M operations is displayed.
If the ORU-M password is set, the ORU-M Password screen to enter the password is displayed. Pro-
ceed to step 4.

3 If you agree, press [Yes].
If you do not agree, press [No]. The Utility screen will be restored.

The ORU-M Replacement Unit screen is displayed. Proceed to step 5.

4 Enter 4-digit ORU-M password, and then press [OK].


Use half-width alphanumeric characters for the ORU-M password. The half-width alphanumeric char-
acters used for the passwords are case-sensitive. You cannot use symbols and space character.

NOTICE
The ORU-M password is not set initially. If you want to set the ORU-M password, please contact your
service representative.
The ORU-M password cannot be modified. If you want to modify it, please contact your service repre-
sentative.

5 Confirm the units that you replace on the ORU-M Replacement Unit screen.
On this screen, units to be replaced are listed in the order from the nearest replacement time. The value
of life cycle will be greater than or equal to 100% and highlighted in red if the replacement time limit of
the unit exceed its life cycle. The date of last replacement is displayed on the right column of the list.
If you want to replace the unit now, proceed to step 8.

NOTICE
Initially, all units are displayed regardless of the need for replacement. You can configure it to display
only the units needed to be replaced. You can also modify the threshold to decide whether to display
the unit to be replaced or not. Please contact your service representative for details.

6 Display the replacement procedure guide and check the procedures of the unit replacement.
You can confirm the unit replacement procedure before you actually replace them.
If you do not need to display the replacement procedure guide, proceed to step 7.

(1) Press [Replacement Procedure].

The ORU-M Replacement Procedure screen is displayed.

(2) Press a button of an unit that you want to replace, and then press [Procedure Guide View].

The replacement guide screen is displayed.


(3) In order to move to previous or next page of the guide, press [*][)] at the bottom of the
guide screen.

(4) When you confirm the replacement procedure, press the [Close] button twice.

The ORU-M Replacement Unit screen will be restored.

Do not press [Yes] before removing the fusing unit.

When you want to replace a fusing unit or a unit other than the fusing cleaning web, make sure to re-
move the fusing unit when this screen is displayed.

by the arrow, then pull out the ADU drawer [2].

(3) Open the reversal output part [1].

(4) Loosen the lock screw (purple) [1] in the direc-


tion (counterclockwise) indicated by the arrow.

(5) Slide the fusing unit [3] in the direction indicat-


ed by the arrow while holding both the front
side [1] and the rear side [2] handles, then pull
up and remove it.

CAUTION

Be careful in handling the fusing unit because


it may be very hot.

(6) Close the reversal output part and put the ADU
drawer back into place.

NOTICE
Please make sure not lift the lever M4 after returning the ADU drawer to its original position.
Press [Yes].

10 Select a unit to replace.


Press [Others], then press [OK].

% To cancel the replacement, press [Cancel] and put the fusing unit back into place. Press [OK].

For the procedure to set the fusing unit, refer to page 9-16.

11 A message to notify you that the machine is being switched to the ORU-M mode.

Make sure that the lever M4 is brought down and Tray 1 and Tray 2 are correctly set, then press
[Yes].For details on how to turn down the lever, refer to step (2) on p.2-8.

12 When replacing units, please refer to page 9-12.

9.2 Replacing ORU-M Units
NOTICE
You can check the procedure of unit replacement on the screen while you are performing the operation.

The replacement of this unit starts with the fusing unit removed. For details on how to remove the fusing unit,
refer to page 9-3.

1 Loosen the screws [1] (2 pieces), then remove the cover of


the drum part [2].

2 Release the lock [1] and pull out the intermediate toner
hopper, then release the lock [2] and open in the direction
indicated by the arrow.

3 Disconnect the LPH connectors [1] (2 pieces).

4 Slowly rotate the drum lock knob [1] clockwise [2] more
than one revolution in order to remove the toner on the
drum. Then, firmly rotate the drum lock knob counter-
clockwise [3] to remove it[1].

5 Turn the left [1] and right [2] lock levers in the direction in-
dicated by the arrow, then pull out the drum part to the
front.

6 Release the wire saddles [1] (2 pieces), then disconnect the


connector [2].
Lift up the cleaning set levers [3] (2 pieces) to release.

7 As the illustration shows, put both thumbs into [1] (2 posi-


tions), then remove the cleaning part [2] while rotating it in
the direction indicated by [3].
NOTICE
When removing the cleaning part, rotate it at an angle of
about 15 degrees away from the drum.

8 As the illustration shows, put both thumbs into [1] (2 posi-


tions) of the new cleaning part [2], set in fitting , then rotate
it in the direction of the drum (indicated by the arrow) [3] to
fix it.
NOTICE
Be careful not to catch the bundled cables when fixing the
cleaning part.
Confirm the blade lever [4] has been lowered.

NOTICE
If the blade lever [4] has been lifted, perform the following
steps to lower the lever.

(1) Keep the left side lever of the cleaning part lifted
towards the direction indicated by the arrow.
(2) Rotate the blade lever [4] all the way down in the
direction indicated by the arrow, then release it.
(3) Release the left side lever.

9 Lock the cleaning set levers [1] (2 pieces).


Connect the connector [2].
Fix the wire by the wire saddle [3] (2 pieces).
NOTICE
Do not forget to connect the drum cleaner connector.

10 Insert the drum part [3] with holding the drum lock levers
[1][2], then lock the drum lock levers [1][2] by rotating
them in the direction indicated by the arrow.

11 Fix the drum lock knob [1], and tighten it by rotating clock-
wise.
NOTICE
If the coupling of the drum is sticking out to the front, make
sure to push it back in.

12 Connect the LPH connectors [1] (2 pieces).

Do not forget to connect the LPH connectors.

13 Return the intermediate toner hopper [1] to its original po-
sition.
Set the lock levers [2][3].
NOTICE
Push the PUSH mark on the intermediate toner hopper
firmly until it makes a clicking noise and confirm it is
locked.

14 Fix the cover of the drum part [1], then tighten the screws
[2] (2 pieces) on the right first then the left.

(1) Pull out the ADU drawer and open the reversal
output part. Set the fusing unit [3] to the cor-
rect position while holding both the front side
[1] and the rear side [2] handles.
Slide the unit in the direction indicated by the
arrow until it reaches the rear side.

(2) Push the lock screw (purple) [1], then tighten


by rotating in the direction indicated by the ar-
row with a screwdriver.

(3) Close the reversal output part [1].

(4) Insert the ADU drawer [1], then lock it by lifting
the lever M4[2] in the direction indicated by the
arrow.

(5) Close the front door.

NOTICE
If a connector of the drum cleaner or LPH is not connected after the drum cleaner is replaced, the De-
tected disengagement of connector screen will be displayed.

1 Loosen the screws [1] (2 pieces), then remove the cover of

2 Release the lock [1] and pull out the intermediate toner
hopper, then release the lock [2] and open in the direction
indicated by the arrow.

3 Disconnect the LPH connectors [1] (2 pieces).

4 Slowly rotate the drum lock knob [1] clockwise [2] more
than one revolution in order to remove the toner on the
drum. Then, firmly rotate the drum lock knob counter-
clockwise [3] to remove it[1].

5 Turn the left [1] and right [2] lock levers in the direction in-

Move a cotton swab in a single direction.

9 Set the cleaned LPH unit to the fitting position, then firmly

This document is comprised of the following sections, in order of screen appearance; Prerequisites for Re-
placing ORU-M Units explains how to switch the machine to the ORU-M mode and prepare for replacement;
Replacing ORU-M Units explains the procedures to replace the ORU-M units; and Procedure after ORU-M
Unit Replacement explains the procedures to be performed after replacement.
You should print this document out and have the hard copy on hand when you start replacement work.

11.1 Prerequisites for Replacing ORU-M Units


In order to start replacing of ORU-M units, follow the following steps to switch the machine to the ORU-M
mode.

1 Press [Utility/Counter].
The Utility screen is displayed.

2 Press [ORU-M (Unit Replace)].

The screen to agree on the responsibility for the ORU-M operations is displayed.
If the ORU-M password is set, the ORU-M Password screen to enter the password is displayed. Pro-
ceed to step 4.

Use half-width alphanumeric characters for the ORU-M password. The half-width alphanumeric char-
acters used for the passwords are case-sensitive. You cannot use symbols and space character.

The ORU-M password is not set initially. If you want to set the ORU-M password, please contact your
service representative.
The ORU-M password cannot be modified. If you want to modify it, please contact your service repre-
sentative.

On this screen, units to be replaced are listed in the order from the nearest replacement time. The value

the unit exceed its life cycle. The date of last replacement is displayed on the right column of the list.
If you want to replace the unit now, proceed to step 8.

NOTICE
Initially, all units are displayed regardless of the need for replacement. You can configure it to display
only the units needed to be replaced. You can also modify the threshold to decide whether to display
the unit to be replaced or not. Please contact your service representative for details.

6 Display the replacement procedure guide and check the procedures of the unit replacement.
You can confirm the unit replacement procedure before you actually replace them.
If you do not need to display the replacement procedure guide, proceed to step 7.

(1) Press [Replacement Procedure].

The ORU-M Replacement Procedure screen is displayed.

disconnect the connector [2].
Lift up the cleaning set levers [3] (2 pieces) to
release.

(2) As the illustration shows, put both thumbs
into [1] (2 positions), then remove the clean-
ing part [2] while rotating it in the direction in-
dicated by [3].
Important:
When removing the cleaning part, rotate it at
an angle of about 15 degrees away from the
drum.

8 To release the stopper of the PCC unit, rotate the PCC unit
lock knob [1] at 90 degrees while pulling out.

9 Slide the PCC unit [1] in the direction indicated by the ar-
row [2].
Lift up the PCC unit [1] in the direction indicated by the ar-
row [3], releasing the front side first, and then the rear.
NOTICE
When removing PCC unit, cover the drum surface with
sheet of paper in order to prevent scratching to the drum
surface.

10 Set the angle of the new PCC unit to the receiver, then fix
the unit by sliding to the back.
NOTICE
When fixing PCC unit, please set the back side then set the
front side.
NOTICE
Please be careful not to scratch the drum surface. When
the PCC unit is installed, remove the paper which was in-
serted in step 9.

11 Rotate the PCC lock knob [1] at 90 degrees to lock it.
NOTICE
Please confirm that the pin has been securely inserted into
the PCC unit.

12 Fix the drum cleaner.

(1) As the illustration shows, put both thumbs


into [1] (2 positions) of the new cleaning part
[2], set in fitting , then rotate it in the direction
of the drum (indicated by the arrow) [3] to fix
it.
Important:
Be careful not to catch the bundled cables
when installing the drum cleaner.

Confirm the blade lever [4] has been lowered.


If the blade lever [4] has been lifted, perform
the following steps to lower the lever.

(a) Keep the left side lever of the cleaning part


lifted towards the direction indicated by the
arrow.
(b) Rotate the blade lever [4] all the way down in
the direction indicated by the arrow, then re-
lease it.
(c) Release the left side lever.

(2) Lock the cleaning set levers [1 ](2 pieces).


Connect the connector [2].
Fix the wire by the wire saddle [3] (2 pieces).
Important:
Do not forget to connect the drum cleaner
connector.

13 Install the charging corona unit.

(1) Hold the areas [1] and [2] of the charging co-
rona unit [3], then align it into the fitting to in-
stall it by fitting and pushing the areas [1] and
[2].
Important:
Be careful not to catch the bundled cables
when installing the charging corona unit.

(2) Connect the connectors [1] (2 pieces) and


fasten the wire saddle [2].
Important:
Do not forget to connect the connectors of
the charging corona.

14 Insert the drum part [3] with holding the drum lock levers
[1][2], then lock the drum lock levers [1][2] by rotating them
in the direction indicated by the arrow.

15 Fix the drum lock knob [1], and tighten it by rotating clock-
wise.
NOTICE
If the coupling of the drum is sticking out to the front, make

acters used for the passwords are case-sensitive. You cannot use symbols and space character.

The ORU-M password is not set initially. If you want to set the ORU-M password, please contact your
service representative.
The ORU-M password cannot be modified. If you want to modify it, please contact your service repre-
sentative.

5 Confirm the units that you replace on the ORU-M Replacement Unit screen.
On this screen, units to be replaced are listed in the order from the nearest replacement time. The value
of life cycle will be greater than or equal to 100% and highlighted in red if the replacement time limit of
the unit exceed its life cycle. The date of last replacement is displayed on the right column of the list.
If you want to replace the unit now, proceed to step 8.

NOTICE
Initially, all units are displayed regardless of the need for replacement. You can configure it to display
only the units needed to be replaced. You can also modify the threshold to decide whether to display
the unit to be replaced or not. Please contact your service representative for details.

6 Display the replacement procedure guide and check the procedures of the unit replacement.
You can confirm the unit replacement procedure before you actually replace them.
If you do not need to display the replacement procedure guide, proceed to step 7.

(1) Press [Replacement Procedure].

The ORU-M Replacement Procedure screen is displayed.

(2) Press a button of an unit that you want to replace, and then press [Procedure Guide View].

The replacement guide screen is displayed.


(3) In order to move to previous or next page of the guide, press [*][)] at the bottom of the
guide screen.

(4) When you confirm the replacement procedure, press the [Close] button twice.

The ORU-M Replacement Unit screen will be restored.

7 Print a sample image.
If you do not need to print a sample image, or the [Print Mode] button is not displayed on the ORU-M
Peplacement Unit screen, proceed to step 8.
NOTICE
You can configure not to display the [Print Mode] on the ORU-M Replacement Unit screen. Please con-
tact your service representative, if desired.

(1) Press [Print Mode].

The PRINT MODE screen is displayed.


(2) Select a paper that is larger than A4, and press START on the control panel.

The sample image will be output on the specified paper.


(3) Press [Close].

The ORU-M Replacement Unit screen will be restored.

8 Press [Start Replacement].

The screen to confirm the ORU-M unit replacemen is displayed.

9 Remove the fusing unit before replacing the unit.

Do not press [Yes] before removing the fusing unit.

NOTICE
When you want to replace a fusing unit or a unit other than the fusing cleaning web, make sure to re-
move the fusing unit when this screen is displayed.

(1) Open the front door.

(2) Turn the lever M4 [1] in the direction indicated


by the arrow, then pull out the ADU drawer [2].

(3) Open the reversal output part [1].

(4) Loosen the lock screw (purple) [1] in the direc-


tion (counterclockwise) indicated by the arrow.

(5) Slide the fusing unit [3] in the direction indicat-


ed by the arrow while holding both the front
side [1] and the rear side [2] handles, then pull
up and remove it.

CAUTION

Be careful in handling the fusing unit because


it may be very hot.

(6) Close the reversal output part and put the ADU
drawer back into place.

NOTICE
Please make sure not lift the lever M4 after returning the ADU drawer to its original position.
Press [Yes].

10 Select a unit to replace.


Press [Others], then press [OK].

% To cancel the replacement, press [Cancel] and put the fusing unit back into place. Press [OK].

11 A message to notify you that the machine is being switched to the ORU-M mode.

Make sure that the lever M4 is brought down and Tray 1 and Tray 2 are correctly set, then press [Yes].
For details on how to turn down the lever, refer to step (2) on p.2-8.

You can confirm the replacement procedure by pressing[Replacement Procedure] on the ORU-M Re-
placement Unit screen and display the replacement procedure guide during the repleacement work.

12.2 Replacing ORU-M Units
NOTICE
You can check the procedure of unit replacement on the screen while you are performing the operation.
NOTICE
The replacement of this unit starts with the fusing unit removed. For details on how to remove the fusing unit,
refer to page 12-3.

1 Loosen the screws [1] (2 pieces), then remove the cover of


the drum part [2].

2 Release the lock [1] and pull out the intermediate toner
hopper, then release the lock [2] and open in the direction
indicated by the arrow.

3 Disconnect the LPH connectors [1] (2 pieces).

4 Slowly rotate the drum lock knob [1] clockwise [2] more
than one revolution in order to remove the toner on the
drum. Then, firmly rotate the drum lock knob counter-
clockwise [3] to remove it [1].

5 Turn the left [1] and right [2] lock levers in the direction in-
dicated by the arrow, then pull out the drum part to the
front.

6 Release the developing suction lock [1] by sliding in the di-


rection indicated by the arrow, then remove it.

7 Fit the rear tab of the new developing suction unit [1] to the
guide, then push the front side of the developing suction
unit [1] to fix and lock it.
NOTICE
Be careful not to catch the bundled cables when installing
the developing suction unit.

8 Insert the drum part [3] with holding the drum lock levers
[1][2], then lock the drum lock levers [1][2] by rotating them
in the direction indicated by the arrow.

9 Fix the drum lock knob [1], and tighten it by rotating clock-
wise.
NOTICE
If the coupling of the drum is sticking out to the front, make
sure to push it back in.

10 Connect the LPH connectors [1] (2 pieces).


NOTICE
Do not forget to connect the LPH connectors.

11 Return the intermediate toner hopper [1] to its original po-


sition.
Set the lock levers [2][3].
NOTICE
Push the PUSH mark on the intermediate toner hopper
firmly until it makes a clicking noise and confirm it is
locked.

12 Fix the cover of the drum part [1], then tighten the screws
[2] (2 pieces) on the right first then the left

When you finished replacing the ORU-M unit, go on to the following operations.

1 When the replacement is completed, press [Complete Replacement] on the ORU-M Replacement Unit
screen.

The power of the machine will be turned on automatically.


NOTICE
You can return to the replacement procedures again and restart the procedures if the [Continue re-
placement] button is displayed on the screen. Please use this button if you need to replace other units.
Once you start the adjustment procedure, the [Continue replacement] button is not displayed on this
screen and you cannot return to the replacement procedures.

2 Install the fusing unit.

(1) Pull out the ADU drawer and open the reversal
output part. Set the fusing unit [3] to the cor-
rect position while holding both the front side
[1] and the rear side [2] handles.
Slide the unit in the direction indicated by the
arrow until it reaches the rear side.

(2) Push the lock screw (purple) [1], then tighten


by rotating in the direction indicated by the ar-
row with a screwdriver.

(3) Close the reversal output part [1].

(4) Insert the ADU drawer [1], then lock it by lifting
the lever M4[2] in the direction indicated by the

(5) Close the front door.

(1) Open the front door, turn the lever M4 down, then press [OK].

(2) Press [NG] of the Status field for the disconnected connector.

Press [Close] on the sub-screen


(4) Lift the lever M4 to lock.
(5) Close the front door.
(6) Press [Close].

The Register ORU-M Replacement Unit screen is displayed.

3 Select the name of the replaced unit.


% If you have replaced more than one unit, you can select the ones with the same reason to be regis-
tered all at once.

If the [Replace Reason] button is not displayed in the list of the Register ORU-M Replacement Unit
screen, press the checkbox next to the [Unit Name].

The checkmark is displayed. Proceed to step 5.


% You can select multiple unit names at one time. You can perform subsequent tasks together by se-
lecting all units you replaced.
NOTICE
Only service engineer can configure not to display the [Replace Reason] button on the Register ORU-
M Replacement Unit screen. Please contact your service representative, if desired.

4 Press the [Replace Reason] button.


The dialog to select a reason to replace is displayed.

5 Select a button for replace reason, then press [OK].

The replace reason that you selected is displayed in the column of [Replace Reason] button and a
checkmark is displayed next to the unit name.

Be sure to select a reason for the replacement. Otherwise, the life cycle counter of the replaced unit will
not be reset.

6 Press [Done].

The dialog box asking to reset the counter of the selected unit is displayed.

7 Press [Yes].

The life cycle counter of the replaced unit will be reset.


% Press [No] to retain the current counter value.

8 Make sure that the life cycle value of the replaced unit has been cleared.

9 Print a sample image.
