With the declaration of the date of the IIFT 2011 entrance exam for Admissions 2012, the IIFT aspirants have geared up for the preparations. With the month of July already in its last leg, there are now only just around 100 days left for the preparations. The IIFT exam is known for throwing surprises by changing the pattern of the paper almost every year. Though you cannot predict what exactly is going to be the paper pattern for this year, you can certainly know about that of the past five years. In this article of MBAUniverse.com, we present to you the paper pattern and analysis of the past five years of IIFT entrance exam. First let us have a look at the pattern of the past five years of the IIFT paper: Year Sections Verbal Ability 2006 Quantitative Ability Data Interpretation General Awareness Verbal Ability Quantitative Ability and Data 106 Moderate-Difficult No. of Questions Difficulty Level

As you can observe, the sections remained th e same, but the number of questions changed over the years. The maximum number of questions was 150 and the minimum number of questions was 106.So be prepared for any number of questions. Analysis: IIFT exam in the past 5 years IIFT 2006 IIFT 2006 had 106 questions in total. The paper saw quite a number of surprises in the form of reduction in the number of sections from five to four, the number of questions reduced from 185 to 106. The difficulty level of the paper was Moderate-Difficult. Let us have a look at the section wise analysis: The Verbal Ability section had questions on Reading Comprehension, English Usage and Vocabulary. The Reading Comprehension passages were long but simple. The Quantitative Ability section had questions on Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Mensuration, Permutation Combination, Probability, Trigonometry and Functions. The Data Interpretation section was quite tough and the questions were calculation and data intensive. The topics of this section were Analytical Reasoning, Input-Output Coding, Individual Reasoning, Table, Pie Chart and Multiple Bar Graph. The General Awareness section was quite tough difficulty level. It had questions on several topics like Science, Geography, History, Political science, current affairs and Business Awareness. IIFT 2007 IIFT 2007 was on the same lines as the IIFT 2006 paper. The difficulty level of the paper was Moderate to Difficult. The Verbal Ability section was of moderate difficulty level. The Reading Comprehension passages were simple in nature. The EU questions were on Fill in the blanks, Spotting the Correct/Incorrect sentences, Verbal Analogies, Direct Vocabulary, Para Jumbles, Spelling Check etc. The General Awareness section had moderate to difficult level of questions. The emphasis was on current affairs and static GK. The Quantitative Ability section had questions from Arithmetic, Algebra, Set Theory, Permutation, Combination, Probability, Complex Number, Statistics and Trigonometry. The overall difficulty level of the section was Easy to Moderate. The Data Interpretation section was tough and calculation intensive. On the other hand, the Logical Reasoning and Decision Making parts were quit easy. The topics of this section were Tables, Blood Relation, Simple syllogism, Numerical Reasoning, Comparison based Reasoning, Criteria based Decision Making and Individual Reasoning. IIFT 2008 The IIFT 2008 paper had 150 questions and the difficulty level was tough. The Quantitative Ability section was very difficult. The

calculations for some questions were tedious. The topics were Permutation & Combination, Probability, Maxima Minima, Progressions, Statistics, Geometry & Mensuration, Statistics, Geometry & Mensuration, Trigonometry etc. The Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension section was of moderate difficulty level. The Reading Comprehension passages were long. The English Usage portion was of the section was difficult in nature. The questions were on Vocabulary, Fill in the Blanks, Phrasing, Analogy, Antonyms, Para-Jumble and Word Usage. The Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning section was of easy to moderate difficulty level. The question types were Puzzles, Symbols Notation, Deductions, Decision Making and Input-Output. The Data Interpretation area was of moderate difficulty level. The questions were on Table, Bar Graph and Line Graph. The General Awareness section was of moderate difficulty level. The questions were covered from the areas like Sports, Literature, General Awareness, Geography, Economics, Current Affairs, Awards and Science. IIFT 2009 IIFT 2009 had seen a drop in the number of questions from 150 to 122. The overall difficulty level of the paper was moderate. The Quantitative Ability section was tough. The questions were a mix of higher and basic maths. The topics were Percentages, Permutation and Combination, Probability, Trigonometry, Progression, Plane Geometry, Logarithm, Equations and Inequations, Time Speed and Distance, Work and Time, Games of Skills, Stocks and shares and mensuration.

The Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning section was moderate. The DI sets were based on bar graphs and tables. The LR questions were on Direction Sense, Blood Relations, Data Arrangement, Quantitative Reasoning and Input Output. The Verbal Ability section had four RC passages which were of Moderate to Tough difficulty level. The English Usage questions were on Synonyms, Antonyms, Fill in the blanks, Sentence Correction and Paragraph Formation. Compared to the other sections the section was easy. The General Awareness section was of Moderate difficulty level. The questions were mixture of traditional and dynamic GK. There were questions from Business, Books, Writers, Current Affairs and Economics. IIFT 2010 IIFT 2010 again saw an increase in the number of questions from 122 last year to 135. The difficulty level of the paper was moderate to difficult. The Quantitative Ability section was moderate. The questions were on Number Systems, Progression, Percentages, Average, Permutation & Combination, Probability, Maxima & Minima, Trigonometry, Profit & Loss, Partnership, Co-ordinate Geometry, Linear & Quadratic Equations, Mensuration, Trigonometry, Logarithm, Set Theory, Algebra etc. The Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning section was of Easy to Moderate difficulty level. The LR section was easier than the DI section. The questions were from Data Arrangement, Table, Bar Chart and Bar Graph. The Verbal Ability section was of Moderate difficulty level. There were four Reading Comprehension passages. The EU questions were on Fill in the blanks, phrasing, Verbal Analogy, Spelling Correction and Para Jumble.
