THROTTLE POSITION (TF) SENSOR
(Wire Breaking/Short Circuit)
Explanation of Circuit: Vwhen the signal of the TP
‘sencor installed in the acco! pedal is upplied to the
Transmission Cantrol Module (TOM), the TCM judges
‘the opening conditian of the thrattie.
‘Tha shit point of the transmission is determined by
this opening condition of the trot
‘Explanation of Test: The following nummars
correspand to the numbers enclosed with a circle in
the diagnosis chart
Check tnat the throttle input voltage is 3.6 10 4.5 ¥.
@ Atthis test, check that as tho thrott opens, the
vollage goes down and that the voltage reaches
4.00 22 V at the tullopen status
@ Check the power supply votage (45 - 5.8 V) of
the TP sensor.
@ Check the resistance (about 12 ki} between the
TP censor power supply voltage terminal and
grounding terminal
@ Chock tho resistance (idle: 8.6 = 11.7 40,
Wide open thrate: 1 - 42k} betweon tha TP
sensor input terminal and grounding terminal
@ Check thatthe tick clown ewitch input voltage is
10to 16.
(@ Check that the ile signal inout wotage is 10 to 16 V
Diagnostic Aids: A temporary tallure may be caused
by faulty connection, worn-awayy wire insulator oF
internal wire breaking of insulator
(Chack if any of the following canestions = provided ia
the TP senzot and TCM harness connector: Terminal
positional shift, improper junction. jock damage,
improper terminal shage oF damage, faulty wire
connection of terminal, and harness damage.

Throttle Position Sensor
‘The throttle position sensor is fitted to the
aceelerate linkage {figure 5)-
‘The throttle position sensor should be adjusted
under the tallewing condition,
1. When shift shock is harsh.
2. When shift up is late.
3. When the follawing parts repiaced.
+ Engine assembly or injection pump
+ Actalerater pedal
+ Thiottle position sensor
* Kick-dov switch

Under the idling condition, set the throttle position
sensor according to the following procedure:
1. Block the wheels.
2, Disconnect the battery negative cable.
3. Eliminate play of accelerator pedal cable.
4. Deprass the accelerator pedal until injection
pump side-tull open.
5. Adjust the stepper bolt that has no clearance.
‘8. Riamove ihe throttle position sensor connectors.
7. Throltie position sensor terminals (5), (6), and
(7)
a. Apply 5 volts to the terminal (5)
b. Measure the output voltage between the
terminal(6} and (7) {Terminal (7) is ground).
HW the autput voltage is 4.1 — 4.5 V, under the
above condition, throttle position sensor
Setting is “OK”
dH the reading is beyond 4.1 ~ 4.5 V, loasen
the throttie pasition sensor fixing bolts, and
‘urn it right 0° left, so that the specified
cutout voltage be obtained.
After adjusting, lighten the throttle position
sensor fixing Bolts,
