If you are familiar with other digital modes, like RTTY, PSK or FT8, you can use the same familiar equipment. Audio connection Connect the headphones or line out connectors of your transceiver to the microphone input of the sound device. Tip: Because microphone inputs are very sensitive, reduce the signal strength best with a low resistance voltage divider. Too high levels results in distorted signals and bad decoding. Configure the 16 bit sound device to a sample rate of 48000 Hz (DVD quality). Ph 27009 Pee Microphon or Line Out 2702 Ground Ground Connect the audio output of the sound device with the second audio cable to the transceiver. Page 3 from 35 2020-11-20 JT65-HF HB9HQX-Edition Manual Version 5.6.1 PTT (push to talk) Note: No need to use a special electronic device for the alternation from receiving to transmit. The changeover with VOX suffice and works fine. In that case you have to disable PTT on the mainscreen of the program and turn on VOX on your transceiver. If you prefer PTT keying, use a simple electronic circuit (transistor or optocoupler) to connect the PTT line of the transceiver to the serial interface (COM port) of the pe. You can use either the RTS or the DTR line of the RS232 connector. Both are equivalent output lines. Don't forget to configure which line you will use. Commercial devices (interfaces, modems) with integrated sound device and virtual COM Ports are also working fine, e.g. SignaLink. Important: If you employ CAT, you can perform the PTT switching via CAT command. Don't forget to deactivate the checkbox "Disable PTT (use VOX)" on the mainscreen of the program. If you close it, the whole program will be closed and the shutdown process begins to run. It's a good idee to close the program from time to time, All required resources became free again Note: You can enlarge or reduce only the height of the main window, but not the width, There are a lot of widgets on the main window, but two of them are very important. The first is the so called waterfall display with a thre dimensional audio frequency spectrum, The second is the list of all sent and received exchanges with additional informations for each entry, One click with the left mouse button of the waterfall display sets the transmit audio frequency (synchrone tone). One click of a row in the list starts a qso with the related station. JT6S qsos are running nearly automatic in a fixed time interval. During a qso in most cases you must only type the enter key. A proper time setting (+/- 1 second) is essential. Activate "SNTP" to correct the time automatically in short intervals, (Menu: "Configure" > "Intemet" > "Time synchronization") Each transmit phase starts at the beginning of an even or odd minute (Radio group: "Transmit") and takes 47.2 seconds. Attention: Don't overheat the power amplifier of your rig! Page 5 from 35 2020-11-20 JT65-HF HB9HQX-Edition Manual Version 5.6.1 The program sends either, a so called "Generated Text" or a "Free Text. The sent text is Packed in one distinct binary number of 72 bits. Free texts are limited to max 13 characters including space chars. Generated texts use an other packing algorithm and are so less limited. During a JT65 QSO appart from the call only the signal to noise ratio or the grid locator (two letters and two digits) are exchanged. JT65 messages are simple, structured and very short, e.g. "UA3AVY HASWV R-02" FT8 and FT4 uses nearly the same packing procedure but other error correction and synchronizing methods. The transmit phase from FT8 dures only 15 seconds (on FT4 even just 6 seconds). This is why many peoples use this modes instead of JT65. And of course, the activity is enormous. Attention: The program must know at least your call and your grid. (Menu: "Configure" > "Station" > fill in yellow textfields). But you must also choose your prefered audio device(s) for receive, transmit and alert, the log database as well as the CAT program and configure it. Don't forget to install and activate the "KVASD" decoder. Menu: "Configure" > "KVASD" Waterfall Display The waterfall is a two dimensional projection of a three dimensional audio frequency spectrum over the time. The waterfall display is a two dimensional projection of a three dimensional audio frequency spectrum over the time. It shows the signal strength in different bright (or colored) pixels. The horizontal axis embraces a frequency from 170 Hz at the left to 2430 Hz on the right. The vertical time axis is ordered descending. Each new spectrum (row) appears at the top. All others moves down, like at a real waterfall Just above the waterfall display you can see a frequency ruler with the marker of the transmit frequency (on the left edge of the red horizontal line). It's the frequency of the synchronizing tone. During the half of the time interval the program sends this tone! To change it you can click with the left mouse button on either, the waterfall display or the ruler. Note: If the checkbox "Fix" is checked the clicking has no effect of the transmit frequency. 90 ago 6g p00 zp ag gp a0 2000290 + You can adjust the appearance like speed, color map or labels (call, band, time stamp) of the waterfall display. It’s possible but not a good idea to send arbitrary calls with more characters or numbers as part of an individual text (as so called "Free Text’), The reason is that the automatic analyzing and filling in the log fields don't works with "Free Text". The new JT65 protocol provides prefixes or suffixes (but not both at the same time) with no more than four characters.
