Sub: Environmental compliance monitoring by MOEF’s Director

1. Sprinkling of water on the portion of the dilapidated roads inside the power station: Although
we had arranged sprinkling of water on the roads inside the power station prior to his visit, Dr.
Upadhyay conveyed his dissatisfaction over non-availability of a mechanized sprinkler and
advised us to procure one.
2. Dr. Upadhyay also seemed to be unhappy over the way of discharging the Cooling Tower
Blow Down in to the ungraded zone inside the power station. He was, however, apprised of
our proposed “Zero Discharge Concept”, which would be materialized on execution of the
second phase of the newly installed Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP). Dr. Upadhyay seemed to
be satisfied over operation of the first phase of the ETP.
3. During monitoring of the Coal Handling Section, Dr. Upadhyay pointed out the dilapidated
condition of the Dust Extraction System and the asbestos-clad enclosure of the Crusher
House. However, he was apprised of what we had already initiated for repairing.
4. Dr. Upadhyay also pointed out the discolored wall of the front side of the turbine building due
to emission of the vapor of the lubricating oil from Unit#1. Please be informed that we have
already taken corrective measure against this observation.
5. Dr. Upadhyay seemed to be satisfied over the performance of the ESP and on inspection of
the Boiler ‘0’-meter floor. He advised us to submit the latest calibration report of the Opacity
Meter and complete ash analysis report. Kindly approve so that we are able to get the ash
sample analyzed through M/S. R. V. BRIGGS, our regular analyzing laboratory.
6. Dr. Upadhyay visited our present ash dumping site and observed the present ash dumping
activities. He advised us to inform him of the quantity of land already reclaimed by way of ash
dumping and did not pass any comment
