Whiskers edge out Blue Snipers in heated close game, 98-97

The Whiskers of Vasquez National High School managed to squeeze out a close victory
against the Blue Snipers of Borromeo National High School during the First Mayor’s Cup
Championship Game held on October 5, 2017 at Surigao City Gymnasium,

This nail-biting basketball game could only be described as two adversaries going toe-to-
toe with no clear winner in sight. The first quarter of the game started off with a fresh lead by
Peter Paul Cruz of the Whiskers, consistently scoring hoops until the end of the quarter. The Blue
Snipers trailed behind the Whiskers, but they were not about to be swept so easily by them.

The Blue Snipers with Julius Braganza got their act together and rammed through the
Whiskers during the second quarter, dominating over them with an 11 point lead, it was the point
where it became unclear who would win.

With the atmosphere heating up, the Blue Sniper’s lead over the Whiskers turns into a tie,
as the Whiskers just scored enough hoops to deliver a nail-biting conclusion to the third quarter

At this point, the pressure was on for both teams, as they were consistently trading hoops
and points, but nearing the end of the quarter, the Whiskers were alarmingly behind the Blue
Snipers. But before the end of the fourth quarter and the game, Peter Paul Cruz scored a hoop,
winning the entire game by 1 point.

Peter Paul Cruz of the Whiskers proved to be the consequential player in the critical
moments of the game, earning him the Star Player of the game. Julius Braganza was still a
valuable player in game, contributing to how close the game went, earning him the Star Player of
team.

The coach of the Whiskers, Elton Jon Miser reportedly said that “We really prepared for
this!”, an enthusiastic remark from such an exhilarating game. Dino Lacio, the coach of the Blue
Snipers remarked “It’s painful. We lost our luck now but we are making up next time!”, indeed it
was a painfully close game. The audience could not contain their screams and chants for the
entire game.

The First Quarter ended with 15-4, with the Whiskers leading, the Second Quarter ended
with 42-53, with the Blue Snipers leading, then the Third Quarter ending in a tie, with 66-66, and
the game was concluded in the Fourth Quarter with a 1 point lead by the Whiskers, 98-97
