Write an article about slavery.

Today let’s write about slavery.What is slavery ?

Slavery is the fact of being forced into doing something without
being paid, having to work hard without the consent.
Slaves were caught /captured/ kidnapped in West Africa around
1619.But slavery existed before in Roman and Greek civilizations.
For a start Europeans/white settlers took slaves and forced them
into working in various (variés)plantations such as tobacco (tabac)or
cotton fields. They decided to take African people because for them
it was the cheapest way to grow what they needed and to make a
profitable business.
Besides , African people were captured because they were said to
be (on disait qu’ils étaient)strong . Then,slaves were brought to the
Americas by ship. They were transported in terrible conditions :
they suffered from diseases(maladies) and some died(die : mourir).
It was the beginning of the slave trade(the Triangular trade).After
that, they were sold on auctions (enchères)to owners who could be
kind or mean. Slaves were sold on markets as merchandise or
cattle(bétail)/livestock.
In addition to that/moreover, slaves were exploited in plantations :
they were beaten, they were mistreated, they could be killed. And
they worked every day long hours for free . They could be
whipped(fouetté), they could have their hand cut or their tongue
cut.
Nevertheless, the Northern states didn’t agree.The South wanted
to keep their slaves because they needed them to work so the civil
war started/began.
