I’ve only been using McIntosh equipment for a few

months but have had very good equipment from
Marantz, Kenwood, Onkyo and others. They are
good but nothing like my McIntosh gear. My
MC2105 is dead silent on power up. The sound
from the amp when paired with my C32 is exactly
what I’ve been looking for for the last 5 years. I’ll
never part willingly with this equipment!

It was the backbone of my system for many years.

I watched a guy bring in his 9100 and was told it
had a manufacturing issue after 8 years. Gave him
a new one right there. Sold me instantly.

My father bought the MC2105 in 1972-ish and

paired it with the McIntosh C28. I inherited both in
the 1980s. So between my dad and I this pair has
been in daily use for, what, 30+ years now?
They've been back to the factory once for a tune-
up/check-out; but never any failures. Have always
sounded lovely to me. And I have to say that I do
like the 70's McIntosh look better then their current
look. I currently use these with Martin Logan
electrostatic speakers.

The 2105 is a very enjoyable reliable amp for me

the past few years. My power switch broke, which
is common, so I had to switch to wall strip to turn
on/off. Recently, my amp started to sound a little
dull, so I downloaded the schematic from HiFi and
was able to trace the signal path through capacitors
C9, C10 (board 043-795), that is commonly a 10uf
electrolytic. I replaced these caps with large paper
and oil caps that I had to mount on the forward
metal bracket (behind the glass), and run lead
wires to the points on the board. I thought there'd
be some hum or some side effect when I powered
up-- but boy was I was wrong. I want to share that
this simple mod made my 2105 so much more
enjoyable for me-- way more 3D/holographic and
vastly increased detail in tones. In my experience,
the 10uf electrolytic in C9, C10- even high quality
audio electrolytic caps- hold back the 2105's
potential. This is a fun reliable amp to own, and
actually pretty easy to work on and modify using
the schematic. I'd suggest anyone looking to add
higher resolution and a more immersive experience
from this amp, to address the capacitors that are in
the signal path (defined in bold on the schematic)
on the input section. Thanks!

My 2105 coupled with the MX113 preamp sounds !

well its hard to explaine. You have to get use to the
Mcintosh sound ,its like no other.
I have a set of XR7's with a Mcintosh 104 EQ and
what a set up. Im a JBL snob from way back but!!.
just lovin it , the XR7's are everything Rouger
Russels great mind could achive. I will never part
with the 2105 and what ive built over the years.
Life is great in my sound room. :) Throw a nice LP
on and just kick it. Five stars for the MC2105
