I cannot believe I hadn’t heard of this play before.

Part of me wants to believe that there was

some grand conspiracy to keep the play hidden because of what and who it dares to expose but I
also know it stems at least somewhat from my failure to diversify my concept of theatre. I am
grateful to have read it and to have an idea of more I can read.

I am a big fan of documentary theatre, though I know it isn’t for everyone. I thought that
the pace and flow of the scenes was fantastic and despite its devotion to factual retelling it never
lost its footing as a work of art.

I hate that reporter character for their “no agenda” shit. I am as always against the idea of
neutrality, and I think this play exposes wonderfully the way that being “neutral”, not having
something you believe in is a backdoor way of allowing bigotry.

The ending was so incredible. Over break I’ve been reading both Prodigal Son and
Yellowface and both have the author somehow break out of autobiography at the end to
interrogate themselves and their characters. These scenes make the plays more fulfilling to me.
In those moments, the show goes beyond storytelling and investigates why the story needs to be
told.
