Types of Plants: We see a huge variety of plants in our
surroundings. Among these few plants are big and few are small. Based on
a plant’s height, shape, life cycle, and the kind of growth it undergoes,
plants can be mainly categorized into five groups.
The five main types of plants are Herbs, Shrubs, Trees, Climbers, and
Creepers. In this article, we will provide information in detail about the
different types of plants with examples.
1. Herbs
The herb is a short-sized plant with a soft, green, and weak stem. Their life
span is also short. Generally, they have few branches or none. Herbs are
filled with vitamins and minerals. Herbs can be easily uprooted from the
soil. A few examples of herbs are the following:
2. Shrubs
Shrubs are medium-sized, woody plants taller than herbs and shorter than
a tree. Their height usually ranges from 6m to 10m tall. Their
features include bushy, hard, and woody stems with many branches.
Although stems are hard, they are flexible but not fragile. The lifespan of
these plants usually depends on the species. A few examples of shrubs are
the following:
3. Trees
Very big plants are called trees. They have very thick, woody, and hard
stems which are known as the trunk. The trunk of a tree gives rise to many
branches that bear leaves, fruits, and flowers. Trees have a very large life
span. They live for several years. A few examples of trees are the
following:
4. Climbers
Climbers have a very thin, long, and weak stems that cannot stand upright,
but they can climb onto nearby objects to grow vertically and carry their
weight. A few examples of climbers are the following:
5. Creepers
Creepers, as the name suggests, are plants that creep on the ground. They
have very fragile, long, thin stems that can neither stand erect nor support
all their weight. A few examples of creepers are the following:
