Presentation & Discussion

COUNT & NON-COUNT NOUNS
There are many things in life that you can count directly. There are
others you cannot.

Things you can count directly include nouns that represent items,
situations, events, and conditions.

Things you cannot count directly include nouns that represent liquids,
substances, chemicals, gases, personal traits, and feelings.
FORM:
COUNT USE “A” & “AN” BEFORE THE NOUN.
NON-COUNT DOESN’T USE ANYTHING BEFORE THE NOUN.

MEANING:
THE USE OF A QUANTIFIER (“A”, “AN”, “BOTTLE OF”, “KILO OF”, “SOME”)
INDICATES A QUANTITY. SOME NOUNS DO NOT USE QUANTIFIERS.

USE:
YOU USE COUNT & NON-COUNT NOUNS IN ANY CONVERSATION OR
WRITING. FOR COUNT NOUNS, IT IS CLEAR YOU ARE REFERRING TO ONE
THING, SITUATION, EVENT OR CONDITION.
