Buildings shape’s polygons superimposed on the produced orthoimage (top le=) and the
nDSM (top right); the descrip5ve height informa5on of the polygons (boCom le=) and
the corresponding buildings colored by the polygon height (boCom right)

a) Shear wave velocity (Vs) profile derived in the residen5al area of Kalochori.
b Profiles of low strain (Go) and mean shear modulus (G) of soil computed
from soil response analysis under the prescribed seismic scenarios SC1 (PGAr
= 0.10 g), SC2 (PGAr = 0.15 g) and SC3 (PGAr = 0.20 g)

where H is the total height of the building, measured in meters, and Ct is equal to
0.085 for moment resistant steel frames, 0.075 for moment resistant space concrete
frames and eccentrically braced steel frames and 0.05 for all other types of structures.
It is noted that the equa5on is proposed in EC8 for both the design of new structures
(CEN 2003) and the seismic assessment of exis5ng buildings (CEN 2004) with height up
to 40 m
where Tfixed and kstr refer to the fundamental period and the horizontal s5ffness of
the fixed-base structure, heff is the effec5ve height of the structure taken as 0.7H
(except for single-storey buildings where heff = H), while kh and kr stand for the
transla5onal and rocking s5ffness of the founda5on, respec5vely

FEMA P-750 (BSSC 2009) suggests that the transla5onal (kh) and rocking (kr) s5ffness of the
founda5on may be computed from the following expressions:
Schema5c explana5on of the period elonga5on effect due to SSI on the seismic force imposed on a structure
depending on the seismic input and soil condi5ons: a) Beneficial effect of SSI reflected in Sa(Tssi)/Sa(Tfixed) ra5o
below unity. b) Detrimental effect of SSI reflected in Sa(Tssi)/Sa(Tfixed) ra5o above unity
