Introduction
The purpose of the industrial training is to provide a practical context that offers the
student an opportunity to apply not only the scientific and technical knowledge but also
the human relations and organizational skills required during the course of his/her
studies. The industrial training programme provides opportunities for undergraduate
to the working world, which will make graduates more aware of the expectations that
industry has of them. This is also a part of ongoing efforts to close the gap between
academic activities of Faculty of Agriculture, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka (hereafter
FoA, RUSL) and industry as feedback received from employers who are part of the
programme is used to improve the existing curriculum in line with the needs of industry.

Guidelines for Students

• Students are required to report for training as instructed by the respective


Department of the study.
• He/she must follow all the rules and regulations of the company/organization.
• Students must adhere to, among others, the dress code, working hours and
working practices of the company/organization.
• He/she should interact productively with the supervisors, subordinates and
others in the company/organization.
• Students should obtain the approval from the company/organization before
taking leave. He/she should notify the supervisor of the company/organization
and the internal supervisor of FoA, RUSL in the event of any accident.
• He/she must deal with any issues or problems that arise, with the acknowledge
of supervisor in the company/organization and the internal supervisor, FoA,
RUSL.
• Students are prohibited from destroying or misusing any property belonging to
the company/organization.
• Students are prohibited from exposing confidential information, or providing
any information related to the business of the company/organization or its
clients or any other information acquired during or after the training period, to
outside parties.
• Students are required to submit a report and make a presentation based on
the training at the end of the training period as instructed by the respective
Department of FoA, RUSL.

Guidelines for the external supervisor or in charge of the company

• To provide a training schedule that facilitates trainee's requirement of


industrial training outcomes.
• To provide trainee with industry experience that is relevant to the trainee's
programme of study.
• To provide appropriate and various tasks in related fields of training.
• To clarify confidential aspects of the organization.
• To help to provide a safe environment for trainee to work in and to brief the
trainee on health and safety precautions.
• To inform FoA, RUSL if trainee fails to turn up for training and also maintain
daily attendance.
• To discuss with the representative/internal supervisor of FoA, RUSL
regarding the trainee's performance and/or any other matter that may arise.
• To notify FoA, RUSL immediately on accidents involving the trainee.
• To notify FoA, RUSL of any terminations of the training programme.
• To complete an evaluation form given by the faculty at the end of the
placement.

Criteria 1: Presentation (10 minutes) 30 marks


Clarity (10 marks)
Were you able to understand the content of the talk?
Did you have the impression that the presenter had proper understanding of the content of
the presentation?

Timing (5 marks)
Did the presentation have the right length (not too long, not too short)?
Were the facts presented too fast, too slow?

Design of Slides (7.5 marks)


Were the slides legible?
Was the content of the slides useful for understanding the presentation?

Style of Delivery (7.5 marks)


Were you able to hear and follow the presenter properly?
Did the presenter keep contact with the audience?
Were questions handled appropriately?

Criteria 2: Industrial Training Report 45 marks


Training Content (15 marks)
The report implies good understanding about the training company's business nature, work
processes, roles and responsibilities of workers.

Communication (15 marks)


Student enables to communicate his/her experience in a clear and concise manner through
a written report.

Suggestions (7.5 marks)


Report should clearly indicate the improvement suggestions of the company/industry
according to his/her observations during the stay at company/organization.

Report Presentation (7.5 marks)


Report is prepared following the template, well structured, neat and presentable, includes
all required attachments and documents.

N.B: The students are required to follow the thesis guidelines stipulated to the final year thesis
formulation at compilation of the industrial training report. It should be typed in single side of the
A4 size paper not exceeding 15 pages.

Criteria 3: Evaluation by the Company 25 marks

It will be obtained from the student evaluation sheet filled by the company/organization.
A letter grade will be offered for industrial training following the same criteria as specified
in the prospectus.
