EP101x – Do Your Venture | Prof.

Suresh Bhagavatula
Week 1

Hi, everyone!

I am going to be your course instructor for the course, "Do Your Venture."

In our research and interactions with people who express an entrepreneurial intent, we find
that there is a huge gap between intent and action. So, in many ways, it's like many of us
clearly know the upsides of regular exercising and intend to exercise. But, very few actually
do exercise and are able to sustain it. While intent and thinking, planning and analysis has its
place, we believe there is no substitute for actually doing it.

Planning to run a marathon? Well, just start running. Cover whatever distance you can and
gradually increase your weekly mileage a little bit every week and within few weeks, you will
find yourself on your way to running a marathon.

The same philosophy, we believe, applies to "Do Your Venture." Planning to do your
venture? Well, just start by going out onto the road, literally onto the road and speak to a few
potential customers. Test your hypothesis, seek feedback, act on the feedback, and go back
again with a reversed idea or a product or a service, pretty soon you would find yourself on
the way to achieving your dream of doing your venture.

Our objective through this online MOOC is to help you with little baby steps, which in our
experience are the most difficult. Like laws of Physics, it's breaking the inertia which is not
easy. But, once you start actually doing stuff, the momentum slowly picks up and the
momentum of action helps in sustaining the forward movement.
