Part 1: Gray Trail
Practice:
Use pg 1 (training of part one) of the Trail copy.
“You must join, using your pencil, all the numbers, from
8-1, in descending order. First join the 8 with the 7, then
the 7 with the 6, and so until you reach 1. Notice that
the 8 and 7 are already united by a line as well as 7 and
6; trace the line that joins 8 and 7 and 7 and 6 then
continue on your own until you reach 1. It is not
important for the line to be completely straight, you can
go through any line to get to a number but you can’t go
through a circle you find along the way. Work as fast as
possible, if you make a mistake you can go back to the
number but you cannot use an eraser.
The rehearsal is over once the child reaches 1
Instructions:

“Now you have to join, using your pencil, all the
numbers from 20-1 in decreasing order. Try to work as
fast as possible. If you make an error you may go to the
previous number, just remember you can’t erase.
START!”
Start the chronometer once the child has begun joining
the numbers and stops once he or she reaches 1.
When the child finishes you say:
“Now we will do it in a different way”
And proceed to part 2

Part 2: Color Trails
Practice:
Use page 3 (training from part 2) from the Trail copy
‘Now you have to join all the numbers from 1 to 6
alternating between the color pink and yellow. First you
must join the pink one with the yellow two and so forth.
Notice that 1 and 2 are already joint as well as 2 and 3.
Now trace the line that joins 1 with 2 and 2 and 3 then
continue until you get to 6. It doesn’t matter for lines to
intersect or be too straight, but you can’t cross any
circle you find along the way. Work as fast as you can, if
you make a mistake you can go back but you can’t erase
or cross a circle.
The rehearsal is over once the child reaches 6
Instructions:
Use pg 4 (color trail) from the Trail Copy
“You have to join, using your pencil, all the numbers
form 1- 21, just like before, just remember you can’t
join following numbers of the same color. You will start
here (point out the pink 1) Start with the pink 1 and
joint it with the yellow 2 and so on. Try to work as fast
as possible. If you make an error you may go to the
previous number, just remember you can’t erase. START
NOW!”

the numbers and stops once him or her reaches 21 pink.

Use sheet 3.0 (training) from the stimulus book

“I will give you a sheet with drawings made from blue, red, black, yellow, white, or green rings. I will always show the rings on this
side (point left axis on the board from the child’s perspective) every time I will show you a tower of different colors and you must
reconstruct it, moving rings from one side to the other to replicate the drawing. You can only move rings one by one; you can’t
retain them or set them on the table. When you’re finished you must correctly order them on the right axis, as in every sheet I
showed you. Now we will do a rehearsal. Parting from this position (red ring under, yellow ring in the middle, blue on top), you must
pass them to the right axis until you have recreated the initial order. If you want you can use any of the three axes

The trial ends once the child places the rings exactly like in sheet 3.0

The children must do the trial alone, only help him or her if they are doing it wrong or have a doubt. Once he or she has done it
correctly the test will begin.

Use sheets 3.1 -3.14 from the stimulus book

“Now you will be doing each tower on your own. Work as fast as you can, you may do all the movements you need, but remember
you must try to do it with the least amount of movements as possible moving the rings one by one. You can use the 3 axes to build
the tower, but at the end it must be on the right side (point it in the sheet). Place your hands on your knees and don’t start until I
instruct you to. When you’re finished with a tower place your hands on your knees again and wait until I signal you to start another
tower. Start now!”

Apply all the trials in the order listed. Every time you begin a new trial you must say:

“We’ll do another”

loud the color in which is word is written, just like in the
previous rehearsal. Remember you must say the color in
