DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION FLANGE/GROOVE
The Globe Model H-1, H-2 and H-3 Alarm Check Valves
are used in wet pipe fire sprinkler systems. They primarily
serve a dual purpose in that they prevent a reverse flow of
water through their bodies (non-return) and also provide for
the use of a hydraulic fire alarm which is not dependent
upon an electrical power supply for its operation. Through
the use of a hydraulic retard chamber a time delay is
provided to eliminate potential false alarms caused by
fluctuating water supply pressures. Where constant pres-
sure water supplies are used the retard chamber (time
delay) is not necessary. By incorporating the use of
electrical pressure switches, other supplemental alarms,
annunciators etc. may also be used. MODEL H-1
A unique feature found on the Globe 3", 4" and 6" Alarm
Valves is the clapper being hinged to the handhole cover
for extreme ease of removal for inspection and service.
Globe Model H-1, H-2 and H-3 Alarm Check Valves
may be installed in both vertical and horizontal positions
and trim can be provided for both variable and constant
water supply pressures in either of these positions.
The body of the Alarm Check Valve is constructed of
high tensile strength cast iron having considerable ductility
to reduce damage in field handling.
All interior operating parts are machined from highly
corrosive-resistant alloys, each having high strength and MODEL H-2
good wear resistance.
Rubber parts are of selective materials which have
good abrasive resistance and long life expectancy in
terms of resiliency.

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

Globe's Model WM and WM-2 Water Motor
Alarms are hydraulically operated indoor and out-
door alarms for use with fire protection systems.
They are lightweight yet durable, and can be used
in conjunction with alarm check, dry pipe, deluge,
and preaction valves to sound a local alarm. This
water-powered system eliminates the need for an
electrical alarm and will operate even if electrical
power is lost.
Globe's Model WM Water Motor Alarm features
a one- gong system which sounds an alarm outside
the building. Globe's Model WM-2 Water Motor
Alarm features a unique two-gong system which MODEL WM
provides an audible fire alarm both inside and WATER MOTOR ALARM
outside the building.
The Water Motor Alarms are suitable for mount-
ing to any type of rigid wall and can accomodate a
wall thickness up to 16" (406.4 mm). They are
provided with a listed and approved strainer for
use in the alarm line. The Gong, Gong Mount, and
Water Motor Housing are fabricated from corro-
sion-resistant cast aluminum. The polymer drive
bearings do not require lubrication.
The WM and WM-2 utilize a lightweight, impeller
design which can produce a very high decibel
sound level. As water passes through the water
motor, the impeller turns and the shaft rotates. The
rotating shaft drives a striker assembly which rings
the gong, sounding a continuous alarm as long as
the water flow continues. MODEL WM-2

 RETARDING CHAMBER

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

The Globe Model H Retarding Chamber is an acces-
sory which is used with variable pressure wet sprinkler
systems where water motor alarms and / or pressure
switches are used in conjunction with Globe's Alarm
Check Valves. It serves primarily as a hydraulic time
delay to prevent most false alarms associated with
fluctuating water supply pressures. In situations where
excessive water pressure surges occur, the Model H
Retarding Chamber is needed to collect excess water
from the Alarm Check Valve and feed water back into
the main drain, before activating the alarm. An addi-
tional retarding chamber could be needed if pressure
surges exceed the capacity of one retarding chamber.
Water enters the retarding chamber through the 1/2"
NPT Inlet and automatically flows through a restricted
orifice and to drain; when the drain capacity is ex-
ceeded, as when the alarm check valve clapper re-
mains open or when the system is being tested, the
retarding chamber capacity is reached, and water then
flows through the Outlet to the water motor alarm and /
or electric alarm switch.
The body of the Retarding Chamber has consider-
able ductility to reduce damage in field handling.
All interior operating parts are machined from highly MODEL H
corrosive-resistant alloys, each having high strength RETARD CHAMBER
and good wear resistance.
