UNIT TITLE: AEN 104 - THE ART OF WRITING

Task

“As things change, they remain the same.” Write an introduction of words not exceeding 250.
The paradoxical aphorism “as things change they remain the same” suggests that while events or
circumstances may seem to be in a constant state of flux or change, the underlying fundamental
principles and values remain unchanged. It implies that there may be some superficial modifications
or alterations, but the underlying essence or nature of the thing remains the same. In some ways, this
statement may be true. For example, technology has rapidly evolved over the past few decades, yet
human nature, our basic needs, and desires have remained largely the same. Similarly, social and
political issues may change over time, but the underlying human motivations and behaviors driving
those issues may stay constant. However, it is important to note that change can also bring about
significant shifts in the way we see the world and in the way we behave. So while some things may
remain constant, others may change in profound ways. Overall, this is a complex and multifaceted
statement that can be interpreted in a variety of ways depending on the context in which it is used. In
other cases, this statement may not be truthful. Many things do not remain the same as they change.
For instance, as a person grows and experiences new things, their values and beliefs may change.
Societal norms and attitudes can also shift over time. Therefore, while there may be instances where
things change but remain the same, it is not a universal truth and should be considered on a case-by-
case basis.
