CHAPTER 4

LEARNING ACTIVITIES AND INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND TOOLS


Introduction
To give appropriate learning activity, it must meet the set objectives. The teacher therefore must choose the activity that will be most adapted to the age, interest and skills as well attitudes of learners so as to meet the objectives. In addition, the learning materials are also prepared for the set activity. The appropriate instructional materials are the real life experiences that cannot be supplied in classroom so what the teachers do is to provide a substitution for it like books, pictures and games. The teacher chooses the instructional aids where in these things are suit for the purpose intended and this purpose will be able to contribute to motivating students understanding the lesson, reinforcing the learning, encouraging participation and providing meaningful experiences. Instructional tools meet the needs of learning situation to ensure the appropriateness and value.

APPROPRIATE LEARNING ACTIVITIES


Different types of learning activities:

1. INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES
It is usually done at the beginning of the school year or every lesson, in a way of games, action songs, energizers, storytelling or posing question to the learners.

2. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES  Data gathering activities- teachers can engage students in different
available tools where in students can use it for gathering data. They can use the hands-on approach, students has freedom to select tools such as computers, telephone, internet and camera. Involvement in data gathering can engage students to meaningful learning as well as independent study.

Organizing and summarizing activities- teacher may prepare an


activity which is well planned. After the students done with the activity, they can now make a summary of their activity, analyze the new concepts and insights that they have gathered from the activity. It may be a new presentation of the knowledge they have acquired that is written in summary form. This will be helpful to measure the understanding experiences during the activity and to know if the set objectives were met.

Application activities- these are done during the application of the


concepts. This is intended to enable the students to master and improve their performance and identify the content areas that have to be improved.

Creative and expressive activities- these activities provide the use


of the imagination and the expression of ones feelings, thoughts and ideas about the insights acquired. The purpose of these activities is to find out the amount of new knowledge acquired and how it can be related to actual situations.

Concluding activities- these are the activities where in students are


engage in as part of the application of the newly acquired knowledge. They may come in the form of wrap up after which student submit the summary of outline form.

-it will facilitate the student to summarize what they have learned in each activity. They are designed to be done as you finish each unit and will provide evidence and examples of your development.
