Lecture Notes on Power Systems 315 – PST711S

Text Book – Elements of Power System Analysis, Fourth Edition – William D

Stevension, Jr.

Note: The prescribed textbook will be followed until and unless it is stated otherwise. If
certain materials are needed to be covered from outside of the textbook then
corresponding reading materials will be provided by the instructor. The following rules
will be expected or followed in order to execute proper teaching and learning:

 It is well understood that the textbook is available to every student. Note that the
covered materials of the book (like pictures, vector diagrams, description under
the topic section, mathematical expressions etc.) will not be presented by online
means (to avoid redundancy of the task).
 Communications between the instructor and students can be made via emails,
text messages, phone calls, Skype, Microsoft Teams, e_NUST, and/or
WhatsApp. Under normal circumstances students will communicate via
WhatsApp with the group or with their Student Representative (SR) and SR will
communicate with the instructor.
 If you have any problem understanding your reading materials, you are welcome
to bring up those issues in WhatsApp PST711S group or during the online
classes. Necessary response will be sent to you while other members of the
group will also receive the same message. A group discussion can be triggered
from that point on.
 Assignments should be completed and submitted within the due time via
e_NUST. Only the selected part (as per Instructor’s choice) of every assignment
will be graded and will be counted towards the final grades subject to the
selected weights. No credit will be given if you fail to attempt the selected
assignment.
 In addition to homework assignments, quizzes and exams will also be
administered through e_NUST.
Chapter 8 – Load-Flow Solutions and Control
The following sections will be thoroughly covered in the lecture. Try to understand the
lecture thoroughly and ask me any question that you might have. All of your quarries will
be clarified in the lecture class. If you need any kind of mathematical derivations then it
will be done by me right away (i.e. within the lecture class) and will be delivered to each
one of you through our WhatsApp group.
