Consumers

A consumer is a person who purchases products or services for

his/her personal use and not for manufacturing or resale.

As a consumer, you must be careful when purchasing an item. You

should compare the prices of the same items at various stores to
ensure that the best value for the best price is obtained. It is
always wise to examine an item to make sure it is in perfect
condition before it is purchased.

Items such as electrical appliances usually carry a guarantee or

warranty. The consumer must understand the conditions of the
guarantee or warranty. The consumer should also enquire about
aftersales services, the availability of spare parts and local agent
distributing the spare parts if there is a need to purchase such.

If a consumer is dissatisfied with the product purchased, complaints

can be made to The Consumer Affairs Division. The Consumer
Affairs Division (C.A.D.) has the responsibility to safeguard the
economic interests of the consumers through: Consumer
Redress/Protection, Consumer Education and Empowerment,
Consumer Research.

Eight basic Consumer Rights are: the right to safety, the right to
basic needs, the right to choose, the right to representation, the
right to redress, the right to consumer education, the right to
information and the right to a healthy environment.
It is also illegal for stores to state “No Refund” or “No Cash
Refund”.
