ABSTRACT

This study is designed to compare the rate of reheating embutido wrapped in aluminum

foil and embutido placed in a microwavable tub, and is conducted to see which of the two

embutidos placed in different containers reheat faster. In this experiment, there were two set-

ups, namely the controlled set-up and the experimental set-up. One embutido was placed in a

microwavable tub (control set-up) and one is wrapped in aluminum foil (experimental set-

up). After three trials of placing both embutidos in the microwave oven, the researcher

observed that the embutido in a microwavable tub is already hot after two minutes, while the

embutido wrapped in aluminum foil is still cold, but it has de-froze a bit. The result of the

experiment shows that the embutido placed inside the microwavable tub reheats faster than

the embutido wrapped in aluminum foil. Based on the results of the experiment, it can be

concluded that the kind of container used for reheating food affects the rate of reheating –

that is, using an aluminum foil as wrapping material prevents food from being quickly

reheated.

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

1.1. Background of the Study

Cooking and reheating are the most effective ways to eliminate bacterial hazards in food.

Most foodborne bacteria and viruses can be killed when food is cooked or reheated long

enough at sufficient high temperature (Centre for Food Safety, 2017).

Embutido, or embotido, is a Philippine meatloaf made with ground pork and stuffed

with hard-boiled eggs and sliced ham or various sausages. It is traditionally wrapped in

aluminum foil and steamed, though it can also be baked. Embutido is commonly prepared

during Christmas, fiestas, and other special occasions (Wikipedia, 2021).

It is very important to reheat food properly to kill harmful bacteria that may have grown

since the food was cooked. Food will take longer to be reheated if a certain material is used

before it is reheated. This means that recommended reheating times in recipes or

manufacturer's instructions might not be long enough (Food Standards Agency).

1.2. Statement of the Problem

The problem of the study is to make a comparison on the rate of reheating embutido placed

in a microwavable tub and embutido wrapped in aluminum foil.

1.3. Objectives of the study

A. General Objective:

2
 To compare the rate of reheating embutido wrapped in aluminum foil and placed in a

microwavable tub.

B. Specific Objectives:

 To determine the length of time it takes to reheat a frozen embutido

 To identify which reheating method of embutido is faster and more efficient

 To identify the factors affecting the containers used for reheating

1.4 Significance of the study

 People: To provide a fast and efficient method to reheat food for cooking ease

 Environment: To provide an efficient way of reheating food and avoiding single-use

wrapping materials for food that add up to non-biodegradable wastes that cause harm to

the environment

 Community: To promote food safety and community health, by ensuring that food is

consumed safely through an efficient reheating process

1.5. Scope and Delimitation

This study would like to know which container or material enables food to reheat faster –

embutido wrapped in aluminum foil or embutido placed in a microwave tub? The plan of this

study is to reheat the two embutidos in two minutes but one is wrapped in aluminum foil while

the other is placed in a microwavable tub. The specific materials needed in this study are

aluminum foil, microwavable tub, microwave oven and two pieces of frozen embutido – each

piece is divided into three to be used for the three trials. The frozen embutidos will be reheated in

the microwave for two minutes, and the reheated embutidos will be compared which one is

hotter. The study does not cover other wrappers or containers.

3
1.6. Hypothesis (Note: Cause and Effect Hypothesis)

If I put the embutido in the microwavable tub, it will reheat faster.

CHAPTER II

METHODOLOGY

In this experiment, there were two set-ups, the embutido wrapped in aluminum foil and the

embutido placed in a microwavable tub and reheating was done in three trials. The embutido

wrapped in aluminum foil was the controlled set-up, and the embutido placed in the microwave

tub was the experimental set-up. The embutidos were placed in the microwave tub for two

minutes. After the three trials, the hotness of the embutidos were observed and compared.

It can be clearly observed from the table that all the three trials have uniform result, that

is, embutidos placed in microwavable tub reheat faster than the embutidos in their original

wrapping material which is that of aluminum foil. The usual two-minute reheating time required

for any food in a microwave oven was achieved by the controlled set-up. This only shows that

the kind of wrapping material and/or container affects the reheating time required for a food or

specifically, the embutido for that matter.

CHAPTER IV

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This study supports the claim that embutido placed in a microwable tub will reheat faster.

Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that embutido placed in a microwavable

tub reheats faster than the embutido wrapped in aluminum foil.

This study recommends more research on why different containers affect the rate if

reheating food. Other researchers can further do experiments to test how different containers

affect the reheating of food. They can also increase the time required to check the reheating time

needed for an embutido wrapped in an aluminum foil.
