Introduction
It is not uncommon for a score to remain unfound on the Internet,
despite several hours of searching. It is enough that the song we
are looking for is not very well known or that its piano
arrangements are not popular for the score to have never been
written and put online. But what to do in this case? There are
several solutions: use a sheet music editing service or write it
yourself. In both cases, it is either too expensive or too tedious a
task.

Fortunately, there are now online tools that allow you to convert
piano pieces into sheet music. However, many of them are of
poor quality and do not provide us with good results.

There are very few applications or software that reliably, quickly

and automatically transcribe piano pieces into sheet music.
PianoConvert is one of them, and it is this tool that we will use in
this guide to transcribe our scores.

Through the example of a powerful tool, this short guide aims to

provide you with all the necessary tools to download a quality
score of any piano piece.

1
Prerequisites
To follow this guide more easily, you will need to have:

An account on the PianoConvert tool

YouTube links or audio files (WAV, MP3, ...) of the piano pieces
you want to get the scores of

A device (computer, tablet or smartphone) with an internet

connection

Additional information
The tool we are going to use to automatically transcribe our songs
into scores is based on artificial intelligence and is one of the most
accurate on the market. It allows you to download the score in
PDF, MIDI and XML formats. You can transcribe the first 30
seconds of all your songs for free. If you are satisfied with the
converted extract, you can buy the whole score for 2,99€ or opt
for one of the transcriptions packages offered.

2
Step 1: get the YouTube link of
your song
The first step in this little guide is to get the YouTube link of the
piano song we want to convert. Please note that the method we
will show you in this guide only works with piano pieces (no voice
or other instruments).

To make it more concrete, we will assume that we want to

convert Ludwig Van Beethoven's Ode to Joy.

First, we'll do a search on YouTube for this piece followed by the

keyword "piano" (or "easy piano" if you want to get the simplified
score of the song):

3
Here we get a list of videos presenting piano versions of the
song. We can open them all in a new tab and listen to them one
by one to identify the version we prefer. At this stage, we must
also pay special attention to the sound quality of the video,
which must be optimal so that we can obtain a quality score later
on.

Once we have chosen our video, we will copy its URL:

4
The ULR of the video will allow the conversion tool to identify it
and then start the automatic transcription of the sound the video
contains. Once you have copied the URL of your video, we can
move on to the next step: importing the song to PianoConvert.

5
Step 2 : Import your YouTube
link on the platform
The URL of our YouTube video is now copied and we have to
paste it into our software.

Go to the PianoConvert online app :

https://pianoconvert.latouchemusicale.com/

Once on the app, start by creating your free account by clicking

on the "Signup" button at the top of the page:

6
Once your account is created, paste the URL of your video in the
space provided on the home page, under the sentence "Paste
the YouTube link of your song" :

Now press the "Convert" button at the bottom of the section:

7
When you have clicked on the button, a pop-up window will
open asking you for information about the song you want to
convert (title and composer). This information will then be used
to rename the PDF, MIDI and XML files you can download and
will also be displayed on the PDF sheet music:

Once the information is filled in, click on the "Convert" button.

The software will then launch the transcription of your song. It
usually takes between 1.5 and 4 minutes (depending on the
complexity of your piece) to get the transcribed files.
PianoConvert displays in real time the stage it is in so you can
follow the conversion:

8
9
Step 3: Download the
transcribed sheet music

After the conversion, we are redirected to a new page where the

score appears and can be played dynamically from the browser.
We can then listen to it and look at the transcribed notes:

10
On this page, we can also download the first 30 seconds of the
score for free in 3 formats: PDF, MIDI and XML. Download the
formats that interest you to learn to play your song wherever and
whenever you want.

If you are convinced by the sample you downloaded, you can

buy the full score for 2,99€. You can also choose one of the
transcriptions packages offered to convert more scores at a low
price (between 2,50€ and 1€ per score):

This tool is very interesting especially when a score is not

available on the internet. It provides a relatively accurate, fast
and inexpensive alternative to get those very rare scores.

11
Once you have downloaded the sheet music, here is the type of
result you can expect:

The piano sheet music in PDF format:

12
MIDI file:

As you can see, the notes are transcribed very accurately and an
internal algorithm in PianoConvert also takes care of placing the
notes correctly on the treble and bass clef (left/right hand
dissociation).

The tool also includes automatic tempo recognition and takes

into account all the bars of the song.

13
Note that if you are satisfied with the transcribed score but it is
not perfect, you can import the transcribed MIDI file into a MIDI
software and make the necessary corrections manually to get a
perfect result. Here are some MIDI software that will allow you to
do this for free:

- Aria Maestosa
- Signal
- Amped Studio
- Soundation
- Online Sequencer

Once your MIDI file is corrected, you just have to convert it to

PDF and XML formats. To do this, you can use software like
Musescore or Flat.io. On these two tools, you just have to import
your MIDI file and then export it to PDF and XML formats.
