Compare and contrast

By: Pradeep and Bhuvan

The two stories, The Three Big Brothers' Ship and Brescinao and Thousand Leagues Under the
Sea, both depict exciting adventures in the ocean and share similarities in terms of setting and
imagery. However, there are also significant differences between the two tales in terms of their
tone, mood, format, and the use of rhetorical devices.
Starting with the differences, the format of the two stories is the first notable difference. The
story of Brescinao is written in an essay form while the Thousand Leagues Under the Sea is
presented in video form. This difference in format allows the audience to experience the stories
in a different way. The essay form of Brescinao is a more personal experience as the reader is
able to connect with the character through the writer’s use of language and storytelling.
Meanwhile, the video form of Thousand Leagues Under the Sea is a more immersive experience
where the audience can visually experience the events as they unfold.
The tone and mood of the two stories are also significantly different. Brescinao is a tale of
happiness, excitement, and disappointment as the protagonist sets out on a journey to the heart of
Morocco, only to be disappointed by the town. In contrast, Thousand Leagues Under the Sea is a
tale of hurry and thrill as the soldiers embark on a mission to reach a facility before the other
soldiers do, and ultimately destroy it. These differences in tone and mood create unique and
distinct experiences for the audience.
In terms of the use of rhetorical devices, the two stories also differ. Brescinao uses
personification and rhetorical questions to add depth to the narrative and engage the reader,
while Thousand Leagues Under the Sea focuses more on the visuals to tell the story. These
differences in the use of rhetorical devices create different styles of storytelling, adding to the
distinctiveness of the two tales.
Despite these differences, the two stories share similarities in terms of setting and imagery. Both
stories take place in the ocean and use vivid descriptions of the sea and the surroundings to
create a rich and immersive experience for the audience. The descriptions of the Spanish
coastline in Brescinao and the underwater area and facility in Thousand Leagues Under the Sea
both demonstrate the use of imagery in the narratives.
In conclusion, the two stories, The Three Big Brothers' Ship and Brescinao and Thousand
Leagues Under the Sea, offer unique and exciting tales of adventure in the ocean. Despite the
differences in format, tone, mood, and the use of rhetorical devices, the two stories share
similarities in terms of setting and imagery. These similarities and differences create a well-
rounded and engaging experience for the audience, making both stories worth experiencing.
