TOPIC: THE POWER OF PRAYER

TEXT: Lk. 11:1; 18:1; 1st Thes 5:17; Psa 55:16-17; 65:2; Gen 30:6-8; 32:24-30

1. THE DEFINITION OF PREVAIL:

 Prove more powerful than opposing forces; be victorious.

 Persuade (someone) to do something.
 To be greater in strength or influence; triumph: prevailed against the enemy.
 To be or become effective; win out: hoped justice would prevail.

1.1 WHAT IS PRAYER.

 an act of communication with God (Gen. 18:22-32)
 A spiritual provision meant for those who need mercy and grace (Heb. 4:14p16)

1.2 DEFINATION OF PREVAILING PRAYER

 A PREVAILING PRAYER IS THE ONE THAT
 AVAIL much,
 That is PREDOMINANT,
 That is POWERFUL,
 That is PROFITABLE,
 That is COMMANDING
 That OBTAINS THE BLESSING THAT IT SEEKS
 That EFFECTUALLY MOVES GOD
 Above all the prayer that PERSISTS UNTIL VICTORY IS GAINED.

2. WHY DO WE NEED TO PRAY?

2.1 TO OBTAIN HELP FROM THE LORD
 Hebrews 4:16… “To meet our Needs”
 Psalm 60:11“…“Because vain is the help of man.”
 Psalm 35:1-2… “T Stand up for our against our enemies”
 Acts 26:22… “To continue in the Journey of Life”

2.2 TO SECURE ANGELIC INTERVENTION:

 Psalm 103:20 “Bless the Lord, ye his angels that excel in strength, that do his
commandments, hearkening into the voice of the word.”
 Acts 12:5-8, 11,…To remove us from every evil prison
 Mark 1:13… To Minister strength to us”
 2Kings 6:15-18… “Angelic Protection

2.3 FOR TOTAL DELIVERANCE

 Psalms 34:17…The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all
their troubles.
 2 Samuel 22:2…And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer
 2Peter 2:9…The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to
reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:”
 Matthew 6:13…And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the
kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for e ver. Amen. 
      

2.4 FOR SPIRITUAL EMPOWERMENT

 Acts 1:8… But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and
ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and
unto the uttermost part of the earth.
 Acts 2:8…And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other
tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
 2 Corinthians 12:9 - And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my
strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my
infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
 2 Corinthians 4:16…For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the
inward [man] is renewed day by day.

3. THE PURPOSE OF PREVAILING PRAYER

1King 18:37..Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God,
and that thou hast turned their heart back again.
Jeremiah 33:3…Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things,
which thou knowest not.

Isaiah 65:24…And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet
speaking, I will hear.

3.1 THE PURPOSE OF PREVAILING PRAYER IS

 God HEARS & ANSWERS PRAYER
 So that the people will know that the LORD IS GOD.
 So that the people will TURN THEIR HEARTS TOWARD GOD.
All prayer must have this as its central purpose. All prayer must turn peoples’ hearts
toward God.
 HE ALONE IS TO BE GLORIFIED.
 HE ALONE IS TO BE EXALTED.
 HE ALONE IS TO BE PRAISED.

4. MAJOR CAUSES OF UNANSWERED PRAYERS

SIN
SEPARATES a Man from God… Isaiah 59:1-2
Sin ASSOCIATE us with the Devil… 1st John 3:8

SINS IS IN FIVE (5) CATEGORIES

I. INQUIRT… Isaiah 59:1-2; James 4:17; Psalm 66:18
Iniquity is Knowing the RIGHT thing to DO but Doing The WRONG Thing
II. FILTHINESS 2ndC hro.29:5; 2ndCor. 7:1
Filthiness has to do with uncleanliness, and DIRTINESS
III. UNRIGHTEOUSNESS… 1st John 5:18; Rom 1:6
A violation of the divine laws, or the principles of justice and equity;
IV. TRANSGRESSION… Proverb 28:1-2; 13:13
Transgression has to do with VIOLATION
V. ABOMINATION…2nd Tim 3:1-4; 2nd Chron. 15:8;
Homosexualism, Idol Worship

SIN CAN BE ADVOIDED

Proverb 4:13-15… Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life. Enter

not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn
15 

from it, and pass away.

 4.1 UNFORGIVEN & BITTER HEART

 The Way We Hold People In Our Hearts Is The Same Way Heaven Holds Us
 It Is Not about Our Activities But The State of Our Heart That Matters To God…
 No Matter How Much God Loves Us, He Loves His Word More Than He Love Us
 To God It Is A Good Thing To Have A Pure Heart

When We Stand To Pray, God Responds To Three (3) Things

I. GOD RESPONDS TO THE THOUGHTS OF OUR MIND
Ephesians 3:20; Psalm 139:23; CHRON 28:9*
Our THOUGHTS Control, Influence, Determine Three (3) Things
i. Our SPEECH,
ii. Our ACTIONs &
iii. Our EMOTIONS

“EVERONE OF OUR ACTION IS DETERMINED BY OUR THOUGHTS”

Isaiah 66:18… For I know their works and their THOUGHTS: it shall come, that I will gather all nations
and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory

NOBODY SIN IS A MISTAKE…IF YOU THINK RIGHT YOU BEHAVE RIGHT

II. GOD RESPONDS TO THE MOTIVES OF OUR HEARTS

God Looks At The “WHY” Behind Our Prayers
If Your Motives Are Wrong, Your Desire Is DISQUALIFIED
James 4:1-3, Chr. 17:2
The Motives Of The Heart Reveals Three (3) Things
i. INTENTION
i. REASON
ii. PURPOSE
Psalm 21:11…For they intended evil against thee: they imagined a mischievous
device, which they are not able to perform.

III. GOD RESPONDS TO THE WORDS OF OUR MOUTH.

Psalm 19:14; 54:2; 5:1, Mk. 11:23-24, Prov. 6:2
“We Should Be Careful When We Pray To God For He Consider Every Word We
Speak”
The Words We Speak Attracts Three Things;

i. THE EARTHLY REALM

 ii. THE SPIRITUAL REALM (Is Where Our Prayer Are Resisted)
Ephesians 6:12; Daniel 10:7-14
iii. THE HEAVENLY REALM
You Ring The Blessing Tenity, Hosts Of Angels & The Spirit Of Just
Man….1st John. 5:7-8; Psalm 20:6; Ephesians 2:6; 1:20-22; Heb.rew12:1,

OUR WORDS ATTRACT

i. GOD
Deuteronomy. 1:34…And the LORD heard the voice of your words, and was
wroth, and sware, saying,

ii. ANGELS
Eccl 5:6… Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before
the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and
destroy the work of thine hands?,

iii. EVIL SPIRIT

1stKing 22:22-23; 2ndChr. 18:21-22… 22And the LORD said unto him,
Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the
mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail
also: go forth, and do so.

these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.

4.2 LACK OF CONFIDENCE IN THE ABILITY & INTEGRITY OF GOD

“Without Integrity With God, God Is Not God”
“What Gives Value To Your Personality Is Your Integrity”

“The Integrity Of God Is The Word Of God”

4.3 OUR NEGATIVE APPROACH /ATTITUDE TO SPIRITUAL THINGS

“If You Don’t Have Value For Spiritual Things God Has No Value For You
“Spiritual Things Are Meant To Improve Our Life”….. They Are Not Generous”

In This Kingdom There Are Two (2) Major Words We Operate With
i. THE PROPHETIC WORD… John. 6:63
It Requires Our Faith …., Nothing More / Less
It Does Not Require Our Effort, “Only Faith”…Luke. 1:45
“EVERY SPOKEN WORD IS A PERSON WORD”

ii. THE COVENANT WORD:

o IT REQUIRES OUR OBEDIANCE
o IT IS THE “WRITTEN WORD”

4.4 FEAR
