REGULATIONS FOR THE IMPORTATION OF DOGS AND CATS INTO SARAWAK, MALAYSIA
(Effective 19 JANUARY 2021)

D, REGULATION FOR IMPORTATION
1. Import Licence
The consignment of animals shall be accompanied by a valid import permit issued by the State
Veterinary Authority, Department of Veterinary Sarawak permitting the import of such animals into
Sarawak, Malaysia.
2. Description of Animal(s) and Identification
a. Animal must be of age three (3) months and above;
b. Dogs and cats must be identified by a microchip that can be read by Trovana, Destrona or
other ISO compatible reader.
c. The health certificate, certification on rabies, vaccination and test (if any), and related
other documents must bear the identification code of the microchip that has been
implanted,
d. The core vaccination certificate must also bear the details (name of veterinarian, name
and address of veterinary practice).
. The animal(s) must not be pregnant.
3. Veterinary Health Certification
(@) The consignment of animals shall be accompanied by the following documents:
(0) Veterinary Health Certificate issued by competent Government Veterinary Officer of
the country of origin certifying:
b.i) _ that the animals has been examined within the seven days immediately and found
to be free from rabies infection and any clinical sign of infections or contagious
diseases of dogs or cats.
b.ii) the animal had been vaccinated against Rabies with killed anti rabies vaccine.
4, Quarantine in Sarawak, Malaysia.
(@) Rabies infected countryiregions
Upon arrival the animal(s) will be placed in quarantine as table below and may be subject
to tests for diseases and antibody status.
if the last Rabies vaccination with killed vaccine is done less than twelve (12 months) but
more tan six (6) months before export, quarantine period will be based on the rabies titre
as below.

Rabies vaccinated but titre unknown Thirty (80) days
(b) West Malaysia, Labuan F,T, Sabah, Singapore
Upon arrival the animal(s) will undergo 14 days quarantine. However, quarantine may be
waived if the animal has been vaccinated with rabies vaccine prior to export and rabies
titre > 0.5 iu/ml.

Fee and cost of testing
(@) The following fee is payable for each consignment of dogs and cats imported into
Malaysia:
Import Licence RMS per head
Quarantine Fee E RMS for dog
RMS for cat
aii) Costs related to testing for Rabies titre if so required will be borne by the owner,
Failure to comply with any of the above conditions will result in the animal(s) being
detained on arrival and placed under quarantine or re-export at the importer expense.
Amendments
‘The State Veterinary Authority reserves the right to amend or revise further the rules and
regulations pertaining to the import of dog or cat into Sarawak, if there are changes in Sarawak's
import policy or for any other reason, as and when deemed necessary.
