A 30 year old male presents to outpatient rehabilitation with
numbness and tingling on the 4th and 5th fingers of the left hand consistent with nerve entrapment symptoms. Upon further examination, it is noted that the patient has normal sensation on the dorsum of the hand on the ulnar side. Where is the most likely source of nerve entrapment and which nerve is involved ?Also write management for this condition. • Ulnar Nerve (Superficial Ulnar Nerve) is entrapped causing Numbness / Tingling of the fingers • As, the dorsum of the hand has normal sensation the entrapment is most likely occurred at wrist between the Hook of Hamate & Transverse Carpal Ligament (Also called Guyon’s Canal Syndrome) MANAGEMENT • As, this condition is considered as an Overuse Injury. Rest is incorporated into treatment at first place • Ulnar Nerve Mobilization • If entrapment is occurred due to inflammation of soft tissue within the entrapment region then NSAIDs are prescribed along with icing • Wrist Mobilization techniques are used in case entrapment occurred due to prolonged position of hand in flexion along with Ulnar Deviation
