introduction: A patent landscape is 

an analysis of patent data that reveals business, scientific

and technological trends. Diabetes is a metabolic disorder in which the body has high sugar

levels for prolonged periods of time.

aim/objective : The main objective of the research work was to perform

landscape analysis of antidiabetic drugs and identify the major pharma companies

manufacturing antidiabetic drugs, the status of patents and identify the list of patents going

off-patent. The data for the study was obtained from various patent databases and landscape

analysis of the same was performed.

Methods and methodologies

method and methodologies used for the study are secondary sources which includes research papers
articles predictive analytics software landscape analysis and graphs for representation.

Drug patent watch database It is a software platform which provides information on FDA approved
pharmaceutical drugs, patents and developments in pharma sector Freeform searching is available and
all types of data of pharmaceutical industries and patents can be searched from any country. It is mainly
used by businesses and organizations in the pharma industry.

Espacenet - It is a software developed for patent search by European Patent Office and member states of
European Patent Organization. It holds a claim of having more than 90 million patent publication records.
Espacenet had information of English, German and French patent documents. It has provided free access
to millions of patent documents Sampling-It is a process of selecting subset of observations within a
population to analyze the required characteristics. Random sampling and systemic sampling is widely
used Forecasting-It is a widely used technique for estimating future trends using the historical data In
this study, forecasting is used for determining the revenue of top 20 pharmaceutical companies
producing generics for the next 5 years by collecting the revenues of last 5 year. from 2017 to 2021

Landscape analysis -This analysis is used to find the distribution of patents all over the world in different
jurisdictions along with the number of patent in every jurisdiction. This analysis highlights the area
holding more number of patents in darker colour contracting the background giving clear view of the
jurisdiction.
