Instructions: Below you will find a pathology/disease that relates to the endocrine system. This
disease may or may not have been mentioned in the online content or online workshops. Your
assignment is to work as a group and do some research to answer the questions.

Background: 25-year-old Shane Johnstone has recently been diagnosed with Cushing’s disease.

Question 1. Describe the symptoms that Shane may have experienced that may have triggered his
trip to the doctor, and what symptoms he would expect to experience if left untreated (2.5 marks)

Question 2. Describe hormone involved in this disease, whether it is upregulated or downregulated,

how it is normally regulated and how the hormonal imbalance results in the various symptoms you
listed in Q1. (5 marks)

Question 3. Describe the treatment options for Shane and describe which treatment you would
suggest to Shane (2.5 marks)
