“My Love At Eighteen”

By: Macy Goodman

Your memory burns in my mind like red coals.

Earning a heart like yours is my ultimate goal.
Your eyes are a pale-blue sky like I’ve never seen,
Oh, what a beauty I’ve found at only eighteen.

You met me once, my memory of you is just a blink.

Oh my Lord, I might have to hire a shrink.
My eyes are lovely, this I know, I don't need your compliment.
Yes, I’m beautiful and strong-headed - I’ll win this argument.
Our future is bright like the sun on a summer morning.
My love for you will only grow stronger, just a forewarning.
We can have a beautiful house with children running ‘round,
Would you rather it be in the country or in town?

My future is bright, yes, but ours? Pshhh, don’t forget,

I’ve already told you that day we met.
I don’t need your love, dreams, or money.
It doesn't impress me much, and you’re not cute, sonny.
You have gorgeous flaming strains of auburn hair,
Every single time I glance at you I gasp for air.
You are different from anyone I have ever seen,
And oh, the way you look in that blue jean.

I really wish I could make you see

how much of a fool you seem to me.
Maybe just keep gasping for air,
or don’t, I really have not an ounce of care.
I have gardens with millions of daisies.
Your smell really gives me the crazies.
Every day can be like valentine’s,
I’ll treat you the best with my many wines.

I can plant, grow, and harvest any flower.

I am independent and have all of the power.
Just so you know, I hate valentine’s day,
And if you’re trying to get me drunk just say.
Oh my sweet love you make me shout,
Why can’t you understand,
I’ll love you until my lungs give out.
I really wish you would take my hand.

A love like mine you’ll never even see.

Oh and my hand, you could never afford a bid.
Boy you’re as bothersome as a flea,
You need to leave me alone, just fall off the grid.
