AGRICULTURAL MARKETING

(SUMMARY)
The purpose of the agricultural marketing is to give knowledge, to give an example and also idea to the
student or people how the agricultural business works, how it implement, rules and also how you can develop
your agricultural business.

Agricultural marketing is composed of two words-agriculture and marketing and has objective which are
Producers, Consumers, Market Middlemen and Traders, and Government. When we say producers it is the
person who maximum possible price for their surplus produce from the system. Similarly, they want the
system to supply them the inputs at the lowest possible price. Consumer is the one who buy things or food they
need or want. Market Middleman and Traders is the one who has interest in a marketing system which provides
them a steady and increasing income from the purchase and sale of agricultural commodities. And lastly
Government, they are the objectives and expectations of all the three groups of society producers, consumers
and market middlemen – conflict with one another. All the three groups are indispensable to society. The
Government has to act as a watch-dog to safeguard the interests of all the groups associated in marketing.

Farmers in the past used such farm sector inputs as local seeds and farmyard manure. The purchase of
inputs for production of crops from the market by the farmers was almost negligible. The importance of farm
inputs-improved seeds, fertilizers, insecticides and pesticides, farm machinery, implements and credit-in the
production of farm products has increased in recent years. It covers what the system is, how it functions, and
how the given method or techniques may be modified to get the maximum benefits. Specially, the subject of
agricultural marketing includes marketing functions, agencies, channels, efficiency and costs, price spread and
market integration, producer’s surplus, government policy and research, training and statistics on agricultural
marketing.

Agricultural marketing plays an important role not only in stimulating production and consumption, but
in accelerating the pace of economic development, in the process of Optimization of Resource use and Output
Management, Increase in Farm Income, Widening of Markets, Growth of Agro-based Industries, Price Signals,
Adoption and Spread of New Technology, Employment, Addition to National Income, Better Living,Creation
of Utility, Form Utility, Place Utility, Time Utility and lastly Possession Utility. Agricultural marketing as its
own functions which involved in the movement of goods from the producer to its ultimate consumer vary from
commodity to commodity, market to market, the level of economic development of the country or region, and
the final form of the consumption.

In making agricultural business you must to think the 8 important function which are the Packaging,
Transportation, Grading and Standardization, Storage, Processing, Buying and Selling, Market Information, and
Financing it is important because whit out any of this your business can’t produce properly. In marketing we
has a different criteria they can be classified in to different categories, On the basis of Location, On the Basis of
Area/Coverage, On the Basis of Time Span, On the Basis of Volume of Transactions, On the Basis of Nature of
Transactions, On the Basis of Number of Commodities in which Transaction takes place, On the Basis of
Degree of Competition, On the Basis of Nature of Commodities, On the Basis of Stage of Marketing, On the
Basis of Extent of Public Intervention, and lastly On the Basis of Type of Population Served.

All the market functionaries involved in marketing the agricultural products from producers to consumer
are commonly called as middlemen. However, in some cases farmers themselves are directly involved in
marketing the products. Which the marketing agriculture has it own Market Functionaries that you can be use if
you make a business someday.
REFLECTION
The things that I’ve learned from agricultural marketing are its purpose, functions, definitions, objectives,
importance and also its classifications. All them help me to understand well about agricultural business from its
concepts to its functionaries like for example, Producer has a big part on business because it is the person,
company, or country that makes, grows, or supplies goods or commodities to sale.

Agricultural marketing in a broader sense is concerned with the marketing of farm products produced by
farmers and of farm inputs required by them in the production of these farm products. They implement a rules
that can help farmer to understand well about marketing and also to total their nit income. In importance of
agricultural marketing it says that agriculture has role not only in stimulating production and consumption, but
in accelerating the pace of economic development. Marketing functions has 8 sector which are the packaging,
transportation, Grading and Standardization, and etc. Each of them has important roles that can help us to have
and maintain the business we make. Marketing has classification which classify the product, location, time
span, volume of transaction, Number of Commodities, Degree of Competition, Nature of Commodities, Extent
of Public Intervention, and lastly Type of Population Served where you can base everything you need to
understand to have a good quality of products.

Marketing functionaries is a part of marketing, which we learned every part or flow of the business that
came from producer to middleman which the middleman has a different part their are Merchant Middlemen,
Agent Middlemen, Speculative Middlemen, and lastly Facilitative Middlemen where the consumer can easily
buy everything they need for everyday life. Marketing functions can help easily to the business producer’s
product to come for its consumers and the customers that needed such product.

By knowing your consumers needs and want it can make the business much more effective, with this subject
whenever I start a business I can use this marketing functionaries especially in my chosen field, knowing how
the Agricultural business work I can make a decisions on how to make may production much effective, how to
trade my product to the consumers and who to make it work.
