important steps is ensuring that all the required styles and design elements have been correctly
incorporated. Most organisations have a style sheet for publishing this material, referred to as the
house style or sometimes the corporate branding guide.
Purpose of House Style
Figure 141 shows some important reasons why an organisation must use a house styl.

What Is Included in a House Style Guide?

paragraph spacing, alignment, bullet style, and so on,

Where Is House Style Used?
House styles are often used in all written communications for internal users as wel as for the target
audience or customers of an organisation. There may be some additional style items specific toa
project, however mast are followed across the organisation. It is important that style sheets consider
the target audience. You have already covered this part in Chapter 9,

In Word you can change the colour of the

and click on the Font Colour option in the
Font group. A colour palette appears (see
Figure 16).
You can select an appropriate colour from the available options, add more shades or customise the
colours using the More Colours option.

Follow these steps to create a new style:
Step 1. Select the text formatted in the required style.
‘Step 2. In the Home tab and the Styles group click on the drop-down menu button,

Modifying a Style
‘To modify an already defined style, follow these steps:
Step 1. Right-click on the name of the style you want to modify in the Styles gallery or Styles pane.
‘Step 2. Click the Modify... option and the Modify Style dialogue box will appear (Figure 14.5).
Step 3. Change the formatting or name of the style as required. You will see 2 preview of the style in
