Do’s and Don’ts of Essay Writing!

Do! Don’t!
Include the name of the novel and author in your Don’t just say the name of the novel and the author’s
introductory paragraph. name.
Use 3rd person perspective: he, she, it, they… Don’t use first-person or second-person perspective
words: I, me, my, mine, myself, you, your, yours,
yourself, yourselves
Indent each paragraph (use the “Tab” key)
Imagine that your readers have NOT heard of nor read
the book that you are writing about.
Do include a synopsis of the novel in your introductory
paragraph: (a synopsis is what the book is about
without revealing the ending)
