source for the article or story you read. This can be anything from searching on the writers of
the readings to the subject matter. You will then analyze the story or article, along with the
source, in order to demonstrate synthesis. You will be graded upon original thought and how
well you convey that thought in regards to the material gathered. You will write a minimum
of 2 paragraphs.

I choose the same story of Fear & Loathing in America by Hunter. S. Thompson.

Hunter Stockton Thompson was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on July 18, 1937. He
had a father who was a World War I veteran and an insurance agent, unfortunately he died
while Thompson was still in high school. Whereas his mother was just an alcoholic, this left
his family to become poor, leaving Thompson and his two younger brothers penniless
(Biography, 2021).

In school, Thompson was known for his pranks. Joined together with his classmates,
they would always test the limits to how far they could go. This went on until his senior year,
ranging from harmless class pranks, trashing, to shoplifting, vandalism, robbery, firearms,
drugs and alcohol. Despite all his mischief acts, he grew up honing his love for literacy and
writing (Biography, 2021).

Through this quick background of his, he is now known as the viral writer to Fear &
Loathing in America and a new style of reporting which is now called as Gonzo Journalism.
These two became his pride and joy, an absolute success. Although being an “counterculture
icon” (Biography, 2021), after a series of bad health problems, he committed suicide in 2005,
aged 67.
