Scene 2: She sat down for dinner at the round table covered with a three-days-old cloth, opposite of her
husband, who took the cover off the soup-tureen. And imagined delicate meals, gleaming silver,…
Scene 3: She had no clothes, no jewels. She had longed so eagerly to charm, to be desired, to be wildly
attractive and sought after.
Scene 4: *Doing house chores. When she accidentally meet her rich friend, an old school friend whom
she refused to visit, she suffered again from being poor.
Scene 5: One evening, her husband came home holding a large envelope in his hand. It was an invitation
for a great occasion/party. But Mathilde was unhappy because she doesn’t have anything to use for the
occasion. So, her husband gave 400 francs for her to buy a nice dress.
Scene 6: As the party drew near, Mathilde seemed sad, uneasy and anxious because of not having any
jewels. So, she ask Madame Forestier to lend her some jewels for the party that was suggested by her
husband.
Scene 7: She asked Madame Forestier and got a chance to have the black satin case, a superb diamond
necklace, and flung it on herself
Scene 8: *Party. It was a success party as she was the prettiest, elegant, graceful, and smiling woman.
Then she and her husband left as Mathilde was drunk and rapidly descended the staircase. So, her
husband fetch multiple cabs. Then at last, they found a cab but a cheap cab. They walked up to their
house. But then, as Mathilde took off the garments she had, she noticed that the necklace was no longer
round her neck. They searched everywhere, even in the street, trying to report it from the Police station.
Scene 9: Mathilde remained in her evening dress as she waited for his husband, but still no progress.
Scene 10: She waited all day long, but still no findings. Then her husband suggested that she must write
to her friend as they buy time to look for it. Then she wrote at his dictation.
Scene 11: By the end of a week, they had lost all hope. Her husband said that they must see about
replacing the necklace. They went to different jewelers as they show the box of the lost necklace, and
for the last shop, they found a design that is seem exactly to the necklace, amounting to 40,000 francs,
and have it for 36,000, and 34,000 if they buy it before the end of February.
Scene 12: Mr. Loisel had 18,000 francs left him by his father, and borrowed some money from different
people. So, he was able to buy the new necklace with an amount of 36,000 francs and Mathilde took
back the necklace to Madame Forestier.
