In modern times, students are experiencing a lot of academic pressure and having less time to relax in order to

meet high demands for achieving better school transcript. This paragraph will outline a number of reasons for
this issue. In the first place, parental over-expectations of academic excellence can be the main contributor to
teenage stress. In detail, as today’s world is developing economically and socially, parents have a desire that
their children are able to be taught in the best study environment to achieve their goals. However, schools and
families have always put too much burden on students to gain exceptional academic results since they rank
their children’s success by the results certificates rather than actually acknowledge their persistence and
effort. Therefore, this might lead to young people pushing themselves harder with a view to satisfying their
parents’ desire. Another compelling point is the competition at schools for the top positions in the league
table. To illustrate, some students are expected to excel in doing exams because grades are considered to be
the measurement of their skills and knowledge as well as ensure better career prospects. For instance, an
employer would desire to recruit a doctor who graduated with honors than a student who has mediocre
grades. Consequently, when students do not reach their goals, they may consider themselves incompetent
and even put them at risk of depression, sleep deprivation and other mental conditions. In conclusion,
academic stress of teenagers can be attributed to the over-expectation from parents and the harsh
competitions at schools.
