the intended purpose and the safety information in the
instructions for use.
Take account of the requirements for the qualifications of the
service personnel. The service personnel must be suitably
trained and qualified.
Observe the safety information in the instructions for use and
in these service instructions.
All electrical installations must conform to the respective valid
regulations and standards and the specifications stipulated by
the manufacturer.
To carry out the function and safety check, remove an infusion
line that may have been laid from the warming section of the
Barkey S-line.
Only use the spare parts supplied by Barkey GmbH & Co. KG
that are intended for the device.
Remove the mains plug from the socket before opening the
device.
Carry out the test steps of the function and safety check that
involve temperature measurements at an ambient temperature
of 22° Celsius ± 1.0 °C or use a formula to convert the
measured values determined at other ambient temperatures to
an ambient temperature of 22°C.
During the measurements do not expose the device to direct
sunlight, a draught or other effects that can influence the
measurement.
If the value measured with the temperature sensor in the

Safety information

If parts do not pass the function and safety check you must
arrange for the Barkey S-line to be repaired by trained
WARNING technical specialists or Barkey GmbH & Co KG.
Always carry out a function and safety check on the Barkey S-
line after service work.
A fan is fitted in the rear housing shell. The fan connecting line
leads to the functional electronics that are fitted in the front
housing shell. When lifting the rear housing shell please ensure
that you do not damage the fan connecting line.
The screws are so-called self-tapping screws. This means that
these screws tap their own thread in the plastic borehole. In
order not to destroy the already existent thread, the start of the
thread must be located in the plastic part when the screws are
screwed in again. To do this, turn the screw initially in an
anticlockwise direction. When the start of the thread is located,
the screw “engages” easily. The screw can now be screwed
into the thread very easily.
Do not overtighten the screws as the housing shell can
otherwise be damaged.
When carrying out service work please always check the
correct installation of the earthing stud and the correct
connection of the earth lead.
Please ensure that the connector interlocks engage.
Functions and safety of the device are only guaranteed if all
components are installed correctly after carrying out service
work.
When closing the housing please ensure that the internally
installed lines are not trapped between the housing shells and
the seal.
Before cleaning or wiping with disinfectant:
• Switch the Barkey S-line off by pressing the on/off button
and pull the device’s mains plug out of the mains socket.
• Do not apply cleaning fluid and disinfectant directly to
the device. Always moisten a cloth and subsequently use
this cloth on the device.
• Never put cleaning liquids into the device’s ventilation
openings.
• Do not disinfect the device with steam (e.g. in auto-
claves), hot air or with thermochemical agents.

► Hang the end of the warming section back into the holder on the Barkey S-line.
► Switch on the Barkey S-line. The warming section will then automatically be warmed
up to the set target value.
► Wait 30 minutes until the warming section and the temperature have heated through

INFORMATION
If you use test equipment other than the Barkey STK test equipment set, please see
the instructions for use belonging to this test equipment for correct application.
► Read off the temperature of the temperature sensor on the thermometer and enter the
measured value in the test report.
The actual temperature in the warming section of the Barkey S-line is slightly dependent
on the ambient temperature. If the ambient temperature rises by 1°C, the measured
temperature in the warming section sinks by 0.08°C. This is why the temperature check
should be carried out at an ambient temperature of 22 °C ± 1 °C if possible.
► If you did not measure the temperature at an ambient temperature of 22°C
+/-1°C, use the following formula to convert the determined value to an equivalent
value at 22°C:
T(Ref) = temperature measured in the warming section using the reference
thermometer
e.g. 38.8 °C
TRaum = ambient temperature; e.g. 26.0 °C
T(22) = T(Ref) + (TRaum – 22 °C) x 0.08
T(22) = 38.8 °C + (26.0 °C – 22 °C) x 0.08
= 38.8 °C + 0.32 °C
= 39.12 °C
The responsibility for the assessment of the reliability of this calculated temperature rests
with the technician. If the calculation with the correction factors does not lead to a result
that is within the stated tolerance, you must carry out the measurement at an ambient
temperature of 22°C ± 1°C.

4.4 Overtemperature protector check

The Barkey S-line is fitted with a protector against excessive temperatures. This
protective function is completely independent from the temperature control. It is ensured
by a further temperature sensor that is integrated into the warming section.
If a set temperature of 43.0°C +/-1°C is exceeded, the heater of the warming section is
switched off permanently. At the same time a fault is indicated visually by the luminous
ring showing yellow and by an acoustic signal.

6. Service work on the Barkey S-line

The components used in the Barkey S-line have been selected carefully and tested for
serviceability and longevity during long-term tests. The individual device components are
combined as assembly groups that are available as spare parts. If, in spite of careful
selection, a repair is necessary on the Barkey S-line, you will find information in the
following chapters regarding replacement of the spare parts.

WARNING
Only qualified service personnel and employees of Barkey GmbH & Co. KG are
permitted to carry out service on the Barkey S-line.

WARNING
Remove any existing infusion line from the warming section of the Barkey S-line.

WARNING
Remove the mains plug on the device from the socket before carrying out service
work on the Barkey S-line.

WARNING
During service work the Barkey S-line components must be protected from damage
caused by electrostatic discharges. Please therefore wear functional ESD protective
equipment during all service work on the Barkey S-line.

WARNING
Always carry out a function and safety check on the Barkey S-line after service
work.

ATTENTION
The screws are so-called self-tapping screws. This means that these screws tap
their own thread in the plastic borehole. In order not to destroy the already existent
thread, the start of the thread must be located in the plastic part when the screws
are screwed in again. To do this, turn the screw initially in an anticlockwise
direction. When the start of the thread is located, the screw “engages” easily. The
screw can now be screwed into the thread very easily.
Do not overtighten the screws as the housing shell can otherwise be damaged.

► Then insert the four screws into the four mounting bores of the functional electronics.

► Use a Torx TX 10 screwdriver to tighten the four screws.

► Insert the cable link plug into the plug-in connector of the functional electronics.

6.12 Cleaning and care

Thanks to its smooth surfaces and rounded corners the Barkey S-line is simple and
easy to clean.
After carrying out service work, clean the surfaces of the control unit, the fastening
clamp and the inside and outside of the warming section and wipe with disinfectant.

WARNING
Before cleaning or wiping with disinfectant:
• Switch the Barkey S-line off by pressing the on/off button and pull the
device’s mains plug out of the mains socket.
• Do not apply cleaning fluid and disinfectant directly to the device. Always
moisten a cloth and subsequently use this cloth on the device.
• Never put cleaning liquids into the device’s ventilation openings.
• Do not disinfect the device with steam (e.g. in autoclaves), hot air or with
thermochemical agents.
Commercially available preparations on an alcohol base without oxygen-releasing
components (with sodium hypo-chlorite with a 1.4% bleach solution or aldehyde
content <0.2%) should be used as disinfectants.
► Clean the device where possible with a water/soap solution.
► Dry the surfaces and use a surface disinfectant.
► Please observe the reaction time indicated by the disinfectant manufacturer.

► After expiry of the reaction time dry the device with disposable cloths.

WARNING
The operator may not use any cleaning or de-contamination methods other
than those recommended by the manufacturer.
If other cleaning or decontamination methods are to be used, a check must be
made beforehand with the manufacturer to see whether these suggested
methods damage the device.
We refer otherwise to your clinic's hygiene measures and regulations.
