Logistics Legislations

The Jamaica customs act is one of the leading form of laws that govern logistics in Jamaica.
It deals with the importing and exporting i.e goods coming in and out of the country how they
should be stored, what goods require permits (Restricted goods, such as meats, plants and
dairy require a permit) or special documents (any written information relating, directly or
indirectly, to goods which are imported or exported; (b) any written declaration required by
the Commissioner; and (c) any record generated in any manner whatsoever, including any
record generated by an automated recording device or programme required to retrieve
information in usable form) when being transported around the country or out of it. The
customs act also states the rules and regulations for most logistics operations and what would
happen if an individual or organization breaks these rules.

The bill of lading act also deals with logistics in Jamaica. A bill of lading is the legal
document issued by a carrier (transportation company) to a shipper that details the type,
quantity, and destination of the goods being carried. A bill of lading also serves as a
shipment receipt when the carrier delivers the goods at a predetermined destination. This
document must accompany the shipped products, no matter the form of transportation,
and must be signed by an authorized representative from the carrier, shipper, and receiver.

The carriage of goods act also is an act that is super important to the logistics sector because
this governs how goods are transported whether by land around the country or by sea. The act
serves to be a guide to the carriers ( person or company moving goods from point A-B) and
the shippers as to what do when transporting goods.
