Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day began to be celebrated on February 14, 1840 in the United States - Valentine's
Day.
At the time, General Claudius II had banned marriage during wars because he believed that
singles made better soldiers. It was there that Bishop Valentim decided to lend a hand to lovers.
He circumvented the norm and helped couples by joining them in marriage. The saint was
discovered and condemned to death for his attitude. The story goes that, while he was in prison,
he received several letters from young people who claimed they still believed in love.
Incarcerated, he ended up falling in love with the blind daughter of one of the prison guards,
where he sent letters to her, with the signature “from your boyfriend”, and that is why February
14 is celebrated Valentine’s Day (Valentine’s Day). And yet before he died, he would have
miraculously restored her sight.
Here in Brazil, this date began in 1949, related to the Portuguese Friar Fernando de Bulhões
(Santo Antônio). In his religious sermons, the friar always highlighted the importance of love and
marriage. Due to his messages, after being canonized, he gained the reputation of a “saint
matchmaker”.
Therefore, in our country, the date of June 12 was chosen because it is the eve of Saint Anthony's
Day (June 13).
The date is no longer just for couples and has become a day to present the person you love,
be it your mother, father, child or even a friend. heart, but what's not missing that day is
chocolate. The sweet has become a tradition among them, most people present and are
presented with chocolate on that date. It is an extremely important holiday for American culture,
as important as the 4th of July and Thanksgiving, despite not being a holiday like the others. . So
the tip for those out there today is: don't forget to celebrate the date properly by presenting your
loved ones with flowers, cards or special little surprises.
