Africa is the second largest continent in the world. It is the home of the world’s largest
desert, the Sahara Desert, and the longest river, the Nile River. Most of the African countries
has been ruled by the Europeans like British, French, and Portuguese. There are about 54
countries in this continent. It is divided into the following:

North Africa consist of countries situated in northernmost portion of the African


continent. People of the north are mainly Islam believers, and they speak Arabic. Also, North
Africa is inhabited by Berber people who speak Berber language. Arabic and Berber language
are two of the principal languages in the region.

Mozambique
● A nation bordered by Eswatini, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

● Maputo is the country’s capital, and was previously named as Lourenco Marques.

● Maputo International Airport (MPM), also known as Mavalene International Airport, lies
in the capital and serves as the main hub of LAM Mozambique Airlines (TM).
● The national parks are Maputo Special Reserve, Bazaruto National Park, and
Gorongosa National Park.
● Mozambique island is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

South Africa
● It comprises nine provinces: Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal,
Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, North West, and Western Cape.
● There are three capital cities, namely Pretoria (administrative capital), Bloemfontein
(judicial capital), and Cape Town (legislative capital).
● It offers enticing tourist attractions such as Kruger National Park, one of the most well-
known nature and wildlife game reserves in Africa. It offers a chance to see and
appreciate the Big Five game animals – buffalos, elephants, leopards, lions, and rhinos.
● Other national parks in the country are Addo Elephant National Park, Madikwe Game
Reserve, Vredefort Dome, Taung Fossil Site, Cape of Good Hope, Table Mountain, and
Robben Island.
● The three international gateways are OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in
Johannesburg, Cape Town International Airport (CPT), and King Shaka
International Airport (DUR) in Durban.
● The leading national flag carrier is South African Airways (SA).

Namibia
● Windhoek is the largest and the capital city. It houses the country’s national monument
and historical buildings such as Windhoek Central Railway Station, Old Windhoek
cemeteries, Alte Feste, and Von Francois Fort (Khomas Hochland, Windhoek).
● The country also offers numerous national parks such as Bwawata National Park, Cape
Cross Seal Reserve, Daan Viljoen Game Park, Doron National Park, Etosha National
Park, Waterberg Plateau National Park, and Tsau Khaeb National Park.
● Most of the people are Christians and speak English, German and other native
languages.

● The name of the state means “Land of the Swazis”.

● It has two recognized capitals; Mbabane is the administrative capital and the largest city
best known for the souvenir products while Lobamba is the legislative capital
● Some of the places to visit include Mbuluzi Game Reserve, Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary,
Mlawula Nature Reserve, Hlane Royal National Park, and Swazi Market.
● The monetary unit used in the country is Swazi Lilangeni.

● The international airports are Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula Airport in Livingstone (LVI),

Zimbabwe
● Country surrounded by Botswana, South Africa, and Zambia.

● It is formerly known as Rhodesia.

● Harare is the country’s capital where the main point of entry lies – the Robert Gabriel
Mugabe International Airport (HRE), formerly known as Harare International Airport.
● Some of the attractions in the capital city are: Lake Chivero Recreational Park, Wild is
Life Animal Sanctuary, Chiremba Balancing Rocks, Mbizi Game Park, and Mukuvisi
Woodlands.
● Visitors should also not forget to visit the Victoria Falls also called the “Smoke that
thunders”, Mana Pools National Park, and the Great Zimbabwe in Masvingo.
