 It is a multinational giant.
 Tata is a very old company older than automobile powered flights and household electricity, it was
founded in 1868 by Jamsetji Nassser Ong Tata.
 He first worked at his father’s banking firm, he travelled to England America and Europe for business and
he saw that Indian companies could make a large impact in the textile industry which was then
dominated by the British. Then he bought an old oil mill and converted into a cotton mill, this insignificant
event was the very beginning of the multinational giant.
 He had an interest on giving back which is outlined by his 4 dream goals, they were to create an island
steel company, a world-class education institution, a hotel and a hydroelectric plant. He only was able to
make a hotel before his death then his son made Tata steel Asia’s first and India’s largest steel company
and then the third dream as completed in the form of Indian institute of science the institution for
research and education in science and engineering and then in 1915 his son made hydroelectric power
supply company now currently India’s largest private electric company.
 They were very innovative and forward-thinking even they implemented the 8 hour workday in 1912 and
one the first companies to implement the now standard practice.
 Today Tata operates 100 companies in more than 100 countries and exports to 150 countries.
 In 2014 the company made $103.27B in revenue in which 67% came from businesses outside of India.
 It employees over 181,000 worldwide that’s more than Samsung group by the way.
 Tata is ranked 34th among the top 500 most valuable global brands according to brand finances global 500
report.
 Diversified business: Tata steel, Tata motors, Consultancy services, Chemicals, Global beverages, Tele
services, Communications and Indian hotels, Tata ceramics, Power, Tata Starbucks, Tata industry, Tata
sky, Landmark bookstores and goes on…..
 Tata owns the South Korean car manufacturer Daewoo, Tata has a habit of buying up British companies,
In 2000 they bought British company Tetley tea for $407M and next Jaguar and land lover in 2008 after
GFC for $2.3B.
 Tata is very successful in many of their fields such as Tata communication is the world largest wholesale
voice carrier and Tata motors is among the top 5 commercial vehicle manufacturers in the world, their
steel division is among the top 10 best steel makers, the communication is among the top 10 global IT
companies, the beverage division is the second largest tea company in the world, and their chemical
division is the world second largest manufacturer soda ash which is used for the manufacturing of glass.
 The company has a habit to return some of its wealth to society mainly through providing investments
back into the local economy this is not very true in India but many others, also made puritment to give
clan water to people after the Tsunami.
 In 2009 Tata as ranked the 11th in world’s top 100 reputable companies by Forbes Magazine.
 J Tata had a quote saying that community isn’t another stakeholder in a company.
