TITLE-HOLDING-STATES & NON-TITLE-HOLDING STATES TITLE-HOLDING STATE: Requires the title to a vehicle that is financed be sent to the lender (i.e. lienholder) to hold until the loan is paid off. Once the loan is paid in full, the listed owner takes possession of the title subject to specified tules* of each state. NON-TITLE-HOLDING STATE: Non-title-holding states will send the title with the owner’s name and lienholder’s name directly to the vehicle owner. Once the loan is paid off, the lien is removed or released.
