“ W H AT I S CO N C RE TE ?
Concrete is basically a mixture of two components : aggregates

and paste. The aggregate component is normally comprised
of sand and gravel or crushed stone. The paste component is
normally comprised of cementing materials, (portland cement
with or without supplementary cementing materials), water,
chemical admixtures and air.
Concrete has relatively high compressive strength, but

significantly lower tensile strength, and as such is usually
reinforced with materials that are strong in tension (often
steel). The elasticity of concrete is relatively constant at low
stress levels but starts decreasing at higher stress levels as
matrix cracking develops. Concrete has a very low coefficient
of thermal expansion, and as it matures concrete shrinks.
All concrete structures will crack to some extent, due to
shrinkage and tension. Concrete that is subjected to long-
duration forces is prone to creep.
Tests can be made to ensure the properties of concrete

General Specifications:
Doli Controlled Servo-Hydraulic Compression Test Machine has a closed - loop system, which means this machine works
automatically.
Available in capacities of 1000kN, 2000kN and 3000kN, also this machine
can be produced in different requested capacities. Frame has 4-Coulumns;
every column has 4 screws to adjust the frame for perfect calibration.
Upper platen is ball seat unit and lower platen is constant. For safety
precaution, the limit-switch is integrated to the machine and also frame

Sensitive servo valve is supplied by Moog (Made in Germany) and controller

KELLY BALL TEST APPARATUS

ASTM C 360
Kelly Ball Apparatus measures the workability of concrete. It is considered to be
much simpler and faster than the slump test. This field test determines the depth
to which the apparatus will sink under its own weight into fresh concrete. It can be
used on site or in the laboratory.
It consist of a cylinder with ball-shaped bottom and 14 kg weight, stirrup, handle
graduated by ¼ inch.

COMPACTION FACTOR APPARATUS

Compacting factor of fresh concrete determines to workability of fresh concrete
by compacting factor test. Compacting factor apparatus enables the check to
be made on the weight of concrete when it free falls from fixed heights into a
cylindrical container of standard capacity. The ratio of the weight of partially
compacted concrete to the weight of the concrete when fully compacted in the
same mould.
The compacting factor apparatus consists of two conical hoppers each with a
hinged trap with a quick release mechanism to allow free flow of the concrete
sample. A cylindrical mould is fit beneath the hoppers.

with slump greater than zero by testing mortar sieved from the concrete mixture.

Cement is a fine, soft, powdery-type substance. It is made

from a mixture of elements that are found in natural
materials such as limestone, clay, sand and/or shale.
Cement used in construction is characterized as hydraulic
or non-hydraulic. Hydraulic cements (e.g., Portland cement)
harden because of hydration, chemical reactions that occur
independently of the mixture’s water content; they can
harden even underwater or when constantly exposed to
wet weather. The chemical reaction that results when the
anhydrous cement powder is mixed with water produces
hydrates that are not water-soluble. Non-hydraulic cements
(e.g., lime and gypsum plaster) must be kept dry in order to
retain their strength.
The most important use of cement is the production of
mortar and concrete—the bonding of natural or artificial
aggregates to form a strong building material that is

Humboldt’s Manual Pressure Control Triaxial System provides a manually-controlled alternative to our automated system. The
manual system eliminates the HM-2450A.3F pressure controller from the system and replaces its function with a control panel
that allows for manual control of the confining and back pressures. Like the automated system, our manually-controlled system
can run UU, CU and CD Triaxial tests, as well as Unconfined Compression. Manual control panels are available in one or three-cell
configurations and can be used in multiple configurations. All you need to do is add cells and the other appropriate equipment to

The one-dimensional consolidation test gives useful information about the consolidation of a sample which is restrained
laterally. The test can be performed with the aim of determining either the relationship between imposed force and resultant
strain or between strain and time of application of a constant force. The sample, of cylindrical shape, is contained within an
indeformable ring and placed between two porous discs; a series of calibrated weights, applied to a lever system, transmits a
load to the load plunger which slides freely within the ring, thus consolidating the sample. A measurement instrument indicates
the axial strain of the sample.

This test is used to determine the shear strength of a soil sample subjected to orthogonal stress with respect to the failure
plane. The sample is enclosed within a robust metal box horizontally split into two halves and provided with a vertical plunger.
The shearing stress is created by imposing a movement of the lower half of the shear box, whilst applying a static load to the
load plunger. In the more refined machines, called “controlled displacement equipment”, the variables that may be measured
during the test are as follows: vertical strain, horizontal strain, shearing stress whilst the vertical force and displacement speed

Designed to compact Proctor and CBR specimens, it ensures an extremely uniform compaction degree,
granting reliable and repeatable test results.
The Automatic Soils Compactor is supplied with interchangeable rammer feet and has two stroke lengths
which means that it can be used to carry out all normal compaction operations required in soil testing
laboratories.
It is capable of both light and heavy compaction using either 101mm or 152mm diameter compaction
moulds. The height of drop of the 2 inch (50.8mm) rammer can be set either at 12 inches (305mm) or
18 inches (457mm) as per requirements. When using the 101mm diameter mould the rammer carriage is
locked in one position and the total area of the mould is compacted in about 25 strokes. The Number of
strokes can be programmed through the thumb wheel switches with digital display. A selector switch is
provided on the control panel for selection between 101mm or 152mm diameter mould.
For 152mm diameter moulds the rammer carriage shifts radically by 25mm to give out 8 blows within the
diameter of 101mm and 17 blows between 101mm and 152mm diameter. This sequence is repeated till
the rammer completes 56 blows and the machine automatically stops.

SPEEDY MOISTURE TESTER

Speedy Moisture Tester is a portable system for measuring the moisture
content of a wide range of materials including soils, aggregates, dust
and powders (and liquids). The system consists of a low pressure vessel
fitted with a pressure gauge and an electronic scale and test accessories.
Moisture measurements are made by mixing a weighed sample of the
material with a calcium carbide reagent in the sealed pressure vessel.
The reagent reacts chemically with water in the sample, producing

RTSS CONTROL & ANALYSİS SOFTWARE
The Real Time Strain Sensor (RTSS) Software is a contact less strain analysis software based on a single camera
and real time image processing for use on e.g. tensile test machines. The strain is measured typically between two
lines or markers and the contour outlines.
Typical applications are determination of material properties [Young’s modulus, poisson ration] , strain controlled tensile
tests, exploration of cracks, investigation of strain behaviour on cyclical tensile tests, dynamic and highspeed tests,
vibration analysis, etc.
The data is transferred via digital or analogue interface to external devices and software. signal for controlling of
external software and devices. RTSS is 100% compatible to universal tensile test machines of Instron, MTS, Zwick,
Schenk, etc.

It is designed to provide solutions for maintaining constant loads for

long term creep and stress rupture testing applications of metallic
materials in accordance with ASTM E139. These tests can run from

of these tests makes the lever arm loading system with dead weights
