Solution:

a) Broad Objective:

The broad objective of this research study is to identify and analyze the factors that influence
the performance of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Kajiado County, Kenya.

b) Four Different Specific Objectives:

To achieve the broad objective, the following specific objectives will guide the study:

- To determine the effect of government policies on the performance of Small Medium


Enterprises in Kajiado County.
- To assess the influence of access to finance on the performance of Small Medium
Enterprises in Kajiado County.
- To establish the impact of infrastructure on the performance of Small Medium
Enterprises in Kajiado County.
- To examine the relationship between entrepreneurship skills and the performance of
Small Medium Enterprises in Kajiado County.

c) Four Research Questions:

d) Problem Statement:

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) play a crucial role in the economic growth and
development of any country. In Kenya, SMEs account for over 80% of employment
opportunities, and they contribute significantly to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
However, despite their significance, SMEs face numerous challenges that hinder their growth
and survival. In Kajiado County, SMEs also face challenges that affect their performance.
Therefore, there is a need to identify and analyze the factors that influence the performance of
SMEs in Kajiado County to enable policymakers, stakeholders, and SMEs themselves to
make informed decisions that can improve their performance. This study seeks to fill this gap
by examining the factors influencing the performance of SMEs in Kajiado County, Kenya.

The study seeks to fill the gap in knowledge and understanding of the factors that influence
the performance of SMEs in Kajiado County, Kenya. Despite the significance of SMEs in
contributing to employment opportunities and GDP, they still face challenges that hinder
their growth and survival. This study aims to identify and analyze the factors that affect the
performance of SMEs in Kajiado County to enable policymakers, stakeholders, and SMEs
themselves to make informed decisions that can improve their performance. By conducting
this research, the study aims to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the
challenges facing SMEs in Kajiado County and provide recommendations on how to address
these challenges. Ultimately, the study seeks to contribute to the economic growth and
development of Kajiado County and Kenya as a whole by improving the performance of
SMEs in the region.
