MAYOR OF CASTERBRIDGE BY THOMAS HARDY:


The novel’s time base consists on 19th century. The novel
begins with a man and his family arrived at America, as he
looks like a good person with personality, but poor. He
with his wife and a child walking some distance searching
for job, but found none. After a long of walk, they saw a
tent (shop), as they went there, the man buys some bread
to his child and started drinking a lot to forget his
depression and he called the people who were there and
said to them, that his only mistake was he married at the
age of 18 and now my eyes are opened. Then he sells his
wife and his child to that people and gained money, with
that money again drinks and gets into the drowsy world.
Next day morning, he wokes up and searched for his wife
and child but seen no one. Then he checks his pocket and
gets remembered what he had done. Then he
remembered the man whom he selled his wife and child
and he searched for that man but found him not. Then he
gets worried and takes his decision about should not drink
again. And he went off from that place and arrived at
CASTERBRIDGE and joined in work.

After 18 year later, women and his daughter walking in the


road and suddenly they stopped saw the tent and
refreshing the past and asks the man who was there. Sir,
would know the man whom sold his wife and his daughter
18 years ago? And he gets remembered and said to them,
he came once and get so worried about the thing he did,
but his wife asks him could you know where is he held
now?
